Trains on the Astoria and South Coast railway will make two trips on Saturday. Boats making connection with the trains, at Young's Bay trestle work, will leave Astoria at 8:30 a. m. and 3:30 p. m. ALONG THE WHARVES. After completing the discharging of tin plate the Crofton Hall went up the river yesterday. The steamer Edith will be Inspected today by Inspector McDermott. The fine of $100 Imposed on Captain Meyer of the Danube for not sending his manifest ashore on the occasion of his last visit here was collected yester day. The Haytlan Republic Is due at this port, and has about five score of Mon golians on board. The steamer Truckee cleared yester day for San Francisco via Tillamook, with a large cargo of miscellaneous freight The Oregon, Captain Pohlmon, ar rived In yesterday from San Francisco. She discharged freight at this port for the following: C. P. Upshur, W. W. Lee & Co., Howerton, of Ilwaco, Ed munds & Co., H. Emanuel, J. O. Meg- ler & !Ca, 'James Relfel, Foard & Stokes, and Frank Parker. The British steamer Danube entered at the custom house yesterday and pro ceeded up about 10 o'clock. The steamship State of California sailed yesterday for San Francisco. She took a large quantity of freight from this port. l'eninnal Mention. of Milwaukee, Seventh round. Both men were weak, and In the clinches fell several times. He expects to go on the Columbine to Alaska. t Louis Ducheney, one of the witnesses In tho case of Nathan rickernell, charged with attempt to kill Dan Gng non at Pillar Bock a few days ago, was In town yesterday, and states that he has discovered cropplngs of coal on his place at Pillar Rock. During the jMist winter he statea that he has gath eml sufficient of the bituminous prod uct to supply his house with fuel, and was not compelled to use any wood. "Some day," he said. "I expect to sup ply Astoria with all the coal Bho can use." The coal Is of a very superior quality, he says, and equals the best that can be obtained In the markets. He has not done much prospecting yet, but has found veins running all the way from a few Inches to three feet In thickness. During the winter season Ducheney statea that he has taken out and consumed over five tons, and he can secure all he requires for house purposes without any boring. As stwn as he can secure the means, he states he will take steps to discover the mag- nltude of the supply. Sold by all druggists. Brunswick, Georgia, May 18. M. UU- man, president or the ogietnorpe Na tional Bank committed suicide In the toilet room of the bank this morning. President Burthage of the First Na tional Bank requested TJllman to re pay a loan made the day before. "All right; wait a minute," said TJll man, stepping Into the toilet room. In a moment Mr. Burthage heard a re port and Ullman was found sitting upright, with a bullet, hole In the cen ter of his forehead. The news spread rapidly and the depositors started a run. In a few minutes the Oglethorpe National Bank closed Its doors, fol lowed almost immediately by the First National. A slight run was commenced on the Brunswick State Bank but the bank met all demands. Mayor and TJllman wholesale grocers, closed temporarily. The Brunswick Brewery and the Brunswick Cotton Factory will also close temporarily. The Oglethorpe Bank was capitalized at $150,000, and the First National ' at $200,000.
