The steamer La Camas, owned by the LaCamas transportation company, and plying between this city and II waco, was attached yesterday by Sher iff Smith and released later In the day on bonds. Thursday the steamer Haytlan Re public arrived at Seatitle and dts charged her cargo at Hatfield's wharf. United States officials went aboard and served the papers In the libel re cently brought against the steamer by H. W. Baker and others. The libel Is the result of the destruction of the Baker dock and . warehouse some months ago, which, it Is alleged, Is due to the careless of the steamer In land ing. For three hours on Thursday at San Francisco, In the middle of the day strong southeaster swept the bay, rais ing a sea which caused the vessels at the docks south of Market street to feet It quite severely. The large four masted Hawaiian ship, John Ena dragged her moorings In Mission bay, and came very near wrecking the Sec ond streot ferry freight slip and the steamer Transit. Both anchors were let go, and they held. Later the tug active towed the Ena to a more con venient anchorage. The schooner Pioneer cleared yester day at the custom house for Redondo Beach laden with lumber. A dispatch received at the Mer chant's Exchange states that an un known three-masted derelict schooner was reported by the steamer Empress of India, as having been sighted about four miles off Tolnt Bonlta, in the vi cinity of Cape Flattery. Tugs from Tuget Sound have been sent ont to look for the wreck. The Pacific Mall steamer Colon, for merly on the run beteen New York and Asplnwall. which was damaged in a gale in the Straits of Magellan last November and put back to Montevid eo for repairs, arrived in San Francisco yesterday from Panama, on the Iway line, and will, be put on the regular way run between here and Panama. This OUR DAILY MARINE COLUMN Is her first visit to those waters. The Colon-is a sister ship to the Colima, registers 2144 tons net, was built at Chester, Pa., in 1873, and looks as'lf she had been better taken care of than the steamers of the- same line on this coast. The Telephone brought down a light crowd yesterday. A marine patrol system has been formed In San Francisco, for the pro tection of vessels when the crews are shipped through the non-union offices. John McLeod, alias "Scotty," a non union sailor returned yesterday from Fresno. He states that about a week ago he took advantage ofi the offer of a walking delegate of the Sailors' union to be boarded and lodged free of charge If he would not ship on non union coasting vessels. He agreed and lived well for four days, when he claims that he was told he must ship on a British ship bound for Liverpool. He demurred and was given a ticket for Fresno with the promise of work in a vineyard at $1.25 a day. He says he was deceived, however, and returned to San Francisco riding on a brake beam. He shipped on a coaster on Thursday. ' The Water Commission. Mr. A. L. Adams, the surveyor em ployed by the water commission to ex amine Into and report on the most feasible plan for the building of a new main from the Bear Creek reservoir to thin Hiv. has completed the prelimina ry survey and has made his report to the water commissioners. At a meet-In- vesterday the commissioners de cided to accept the route known as the "Ridge Route." This runs along ih roxcomb ridge, and the Walluskl divide till it strikes the required height at Bear creek. The route as surveyed calls for eleven and three-fourths miips of DlDe line, and the plans and specifications are to becompletcd at once. Bids will be asked ana pro Dosals received for both metal and wood pipe, but nothing will be deter mined about either class of material until all the bids are in. Negotiations will be commenced at once to Becure the rl.ht of way for the line. For this a width of thirty feet will be required along the whole route, and as soon as the way Is secured, arrangements will be made for -rubbing and clearing the road In order to enable the commission to get In materials and supplies. When this track Is completed It will make a good wagon road to Bear creek, besides allowing the settlers of that region to reach town by land, something that they have been here tofore unable to do. It Is exoected that all details will be combleted and contracts let by June 1st. The matter of the final location of the reservoir Is still an open ques tion. Several good sites have been found, but nothing definite has yet been decided on. 1 EVENING POST SOLD. San Francisco, Cal., March 18.
