There is a class of people in every community which can be categoried as a "back numbers," who, instead of exerting themselves to forward the welfare and prosperity of their respec tive localities find it their way to cry down every movement, public or pri vate, calculated to increase the popula tion, wealth and the industries of tho community. They deem it their duy to convey to the world tho dismal in formation that, the country and es pecially that particular portion in which they reside is going to the "dogs" with lightning rapidity. Should a progressive citizen contem plate encouraging attention in any way to the Ecction in which he is in terested, there is sure to be a howl of disgust from the "back number" crowd, and the chances are that the former will become so thoroughly dis satisfied that the effort will "die abornin." It i3 to thi3 class people belong, who seldom go out of their way to spend a dollar at home. "What care they for home institutions? But the weeding out of this unprogressive. improvement-preventing clan is only a question of time, for tho development of varied resources throughout the states Is becoming greater every month in the year, and with this comes a class whoso whole heart is bound in making each individual effort one of benefit to the community. Home institutions should receive that encouragement which is the due of honest, legitimate business proposi tions, and in no way can this be better done than in making a primary start by supporting those who have in vested capital in local enterprises, whether they bo mercantile or manu facturing.
