Large re enforcements have come in from Standing Bock and other agencies. The depredations of the Indians have extended to the foot of the Black Hills. Flying Bell's herd, owned in the liills, has been captured. It is useless to talk peace, as there has been no attempt made on the part of the hostiles to move out of their en trenchments since the peace council was held, and nono of the promises made by them have been kept. There is great excitement here. It is said that when the chiefs re turned from the agency a council was held. Chief "Two Strikes" and his followers favored peace, but "Kicking Bear," 'Short BnU," and other chiefs composing a majority of tho camp took decided ground on the other side. The council lasted several hours, dur ing which the excitement reached the highest pitch. Finally the council broke up in a fight. Troops have received orders to be in readiness to march to the Bad Lands. Omaha, Dee. 12. Nearly six hun dred lodges, three thousand Sioux, in cluding tho bands of "Two Strikes" and "Short Bull" are marching in from the Bad Lands to the Pine Bidge agency in obedience to General Brooke's orders and will report to him to-night unless they are stampeded by fresh rumora. "Washington, Dec. 12. General Schofield received a telegram this morning from General Brooke through General Miles, at Chicago, saying that tho few Indians in the Bad Lands had broke away and were moving north across the Cheyenne river, but troops are on their trail aud it is hoped they will intercept them. MrNNEAPOiiis,Dec. 12. A Journal's New Bockford, N. D. speoial says: "The New Bockford people slept on their arms last night. A party of Sioux camped near the town and kept up the ghost dance all night. The Indians stole flour from a mill here until an armed guard was placed in the building. A few cattle were also killed. Settlers are coming in from all directions this morning. Pine Bidge, S.D.,Dec. 12. Indi cations are that the fight between the peace and war factions in "Two Strikes" band was more sanguinary than indicated in earlier dispatches. "Yankton Charlie," a full-blooded Sioux and a government scout has come in from the Indian camp in the Bad Lands and reports a bloody fight among followers of chiefs "Short Bull" and "Two Strikes." Each olaimed the leadership and each tried to secure it by force. The result is 20 to 50 dead Indians. This report is verified by several friendlie3. The leaders on the republican side appreciate the necessity of utilizing every day of the session and are there fore making every endeavor to have the house meet every day during the holidays. Even should a resolution, for a re cess be defeated tho question for a quorum presents itself. It is feared that nothing can keep a largo number of people in the city and it is against this situation that tho managers will havo to contend most strongly. Major McKinley said to-day: "T am strongly opposed to recess if we can maintain a quorum." lyiLIi TALK IT TO DEATH. Democrats in the House to De feat the election Bill. Special to The Astorianj Chicago, Dec. 12. An Inter-Ocean Washington special sajs: "The dem ocratic senators are more firmly re solved than ever to talk the election bill to death. Mr. Gormrfh is manager of the de bate on tho democratic sido and he is provided with a list of Democratic senators who wisii to speak. Twenty six democrats have already entered their name3 on tho list. Senator Morgon has asked for an entire week and those who remember his four das' speech on the fisheries do not doubt his ability to occupy a week of tho ordinary session of the senate. Senator George has indicated his readiness to speak four dajs in install ments. Tho summary of the time, which democratic senators havo asked for whose names aro already on Senator Gorman's list exceed by two weeks tho time still left of the congress. It becomes clearer every day that there is but one course open to republi cans if they wish to accomplish their purpose, and that is drastic policy of changing the rules and that can only bo accomplished by tactics similar to those which Speaker Beed had re course to when tho new rules of the house were adopted.
