The South American correspondent of the Star says that in Guatemala the smallpox epidemic is raging, and for the first timo in tho country's history tho gov ernment is compelled to make rigid quarantine regulations. A Missouri Pacific special stock train was wrecked on the belt line to-night about 6:30 o'clock. The wreck occurred on a reverso curve at the foot of a heavy grade. Eight cars of cattle were smashed and many killed. John Os borne, a brakeman of Atchison, Kan sas, wa3 fatally hurt and Fireman Wilson of Hiawatha, Kansas, was badly injured. The British ship Oclttertyre cleared for Qneenstown, or Falmouth yester dav. She has on board 22,618 barrels of flour valued at $79,163. Of this c!Trgo 2,503 barrels were loaded here. The British ship Iron Cross, par tially loaded with wheat, is on the way down the river, and will prob ably bo here to-day, as sho was near Brookfield last night. The British ship ScottisJi Isles, which left Portland on Saturday for tbiscity with a partial cargo, is stuck in the new channel below Mt Coffin on tho Washington side. Dr. J. P. Strong, said: "A man might fall as easy as a star from the heavens." The next instant his face turned ashy pale, he clutched wildly at the pulpit for support, and dropped on the floor in a fit of apoplexy. The horrified congregation was spellbound for a moment, and then the cooler ones rushed to the pros trate pastor and raised him from the floor. He was taken home and died this morning.
