They are of good size, and every way equal to the East ern production. This is another evi dence that Columbia county is pro ductive of anything worth raising. Mr. Caples succeeded in raising quite a lot of these tubers this year. Mr. Russell was considered a possi bility years ago to fill the vacancy caused by tho death of Stanley Matthews, but he was at the eleventh hour turned down for Judge Brewer. To Charter a. Steamer, Special to The AsronuxJ San Francisco, Nov. 22. It was rumored yesterday that the Oregon Improvement Company is now nego tiating with the Pacific Coast Steam ship Company for the chartering of the latter's steamer Pomona, which plies between San Francisco and San Diego. The Oregon Improvement Com pany has been looking for a long time past for an opportunity to char ter a vessel to run in connection with the Eastern Oregon and it is now said that the Pomona will betheboat to work. The Pomona is similar in size, and in stylo is like the steamship Carona. FALLING WALLS. A New Ouildlng- in Jersey City Collapse's. Special to Tub Asror.iAK. Jersey Crrx, N. J., Nov. 22. The walls of tho new brick building of Wells, Fargo & Co.,- in course of erecting on Bavaria avenue, near Cole street, suddenly fell to-day burying a largo number of workmen in the debris.
