Dr. Prentice Will Cure the First Case Of Cx-oss-Eyeaand Epileptic Fits Fiee On the Day of His Arrival in Astoria. A man well known in this community writes the following interesting letter: "1 was chopping a stnmp four weeks ago. when a flying chip struck me in the eye; for a short time 1 was entirely blind, 'then partial sight returned again. I nurtured nope and continued to treat it at home, until ten days ago, when 1 began to abandon hope of ever peeing perfectly again, unless some thing more than ordinary was done. 1 then counciled two of the leading Oculists of Portland, who told me one eje would have to be cut out to save the other. It did not exactly suit me to ha e my c e cut out, and so I sought other council. I went to Dr. Prentice, tin Oculist, then at Portland, and he laughed at the idea of its being neces s.uy to cut my eye out; I joined m tho laugh, for it was on my side. 1 haw been free from pain since the first day's a iait to Dr. Prentice, and im proved steadily, and am npw entirelv well again. 1 feel safe in saying that ff Dr. Prentice cannot cure a case he will ah ays say so. Tuos. JI. Foss, Gray's River, Wash. A Touching Scene Witnessed By a Portland Gentleman. One week ago we received an invita tion to witness a delicate surgical oper ation on an eye. i he patient was the 17-j car old daughter o Harrison Hay. For three ycais she had been blind in both ejes with a cataract, and was obliged to grope her way about in total dai l;nes5. The patient, -u ithout taking chloioform, submitted to the following oneration: fchewasnow rcadvforthe sur:rical part of the work, and w o stood m breathless anxiety as Dr. Prentice ij,ewi the noint of his knifo at tho de of the eyeball, carefully touched the point of the cornea, then the blade entered the eye; v. e saw it pass through the c3'e in front of the pupil and then conic out at the opposite side. It was then drawn upward, and a cut made of about one-third of the circumference of the ball. Another instrument was then pa-ed in back of the pupil, and almost on the instant the hi said: "Oh, Dr. Prentice 1 can see you.' This was spoken in tones ell calculated to bring tear-. Jo one's cye. From the time the knife touched tho eje until the IMitient could see, it was just one min ute, bhc -was allowed to sec those about her for a moment, then the eye i was closed and bandaged. In ju&t one week after the operation she came into our office and was able to read our paper. She also wrote a letter home, saying; "Dear parents, I can I bee and am happy.7 Mr. Jerome v. uampocu. uenerai Superintendent of the Willamette Urulge Railway Co., saw this operation. Frni A LETTER.
