Special by Tho United Pbess. London, Nov. 12. Her' Majesty's ship Serpent was wrecked on "Mon day night, twenty miles north of Cape Fitnslere. Two hundred and forty seven men were drowned and only three escaped. The Serpent went on the rocks during a severe storm when off the Spanish coast, and it was im possible to obtain assistance from tho shore. The vessel remained in a helpless condition until broken to pieces by tremendous Eeas which swept over ber. The members of the crew were washed overboard in groups by the remorseless waves and drowned or dashed to death amid the rocks. Ne.s of the disaster was conveyed io Corunna, a distance of sixty miles over mountain roads, and when a re lief corps was organized and sent to the scene of the wreck it was ton late to be ot any avail.
