Gigantic Railway Schrae,
A svndicate of capitalists has been
formed with a capital Btcck of $100,
000,009 for the purpose of building
the Chicago, Iowa & Pacific railroad.
Articles of incorporation were filed- at
Des Moines, Iowa, on the 29th df last
month, the incorporators being E. 33.
Hutchins and W. H. Ward of Des
Moines; Jesse A. Baldwin, Henry E.
Ualdwm, Geo. i. Simmons ana unns.
A. Newton of Chicago, and Christian
Lynch of Harrisburg, Pa. The line
is to be constructed from Chicago to
the City of Mexico via JDes Moines,
with a branch from the latter city to
Puget Sound. The headquarters of
the company are to be established at
Des Moines.
Of all the vegetables which furnish
nourishment to man the banana is the
most prolific; a single cluster often
contains from 160 to ISO pods and
weighs from GO to 80 pounds. Hum
boldt says that apiece of land 120
square "yards will product 4,000
pounds weight of fruit, wliile tbe
same area will rarely produce more
than 30 pounds weight of wheat or SO
pounds of potatoes.
