General Spauldiug said to-day that he , did not anticipate any trouble with regard to tho execution of the new law on the Pacific coast by reason ot tho failure of customs officials to receive official copies of the law at date it goes into operation, as entries made on and after Monday under tho present law can bo readily liquidated under the new rates with very little extra labor. Week ago to day tho body of a rancher named James McKee was found hanging to a tree near his ranch on tho Laramie river. The coroner was wired that it was a clear case of suicide and con sidered an inquest unnecessary. A story was brought in this evening and the supposed self destruction of a crazy rancher developed into a roman tic tale. McKee was attached to an outfit on the Nebraska border. He fell violently in love with a girl of 13, who was traveling over land to Oregon with her sister and brother-in-law. The child did not caro for him, but ho pressed his suit and followed tho movers. Time after time ho was rejected by the thoughtless miss, but was only moro enamoured of her pretty face and shapely figure. On Thursday afternoon tho girl's male protector told McKee that his attentions must cease, and ordered him to leave. The rancher departed soro distressed. Tho next morniug the blackbirds eyed askance the tree's strange fruit. and chattered at tho deathless form of the Swede. McKee left a typical note to tho girl. The interment of the body was made in a brutal fashion. Not ovea the noose was taken from his neck, and his hat and boots went into the grave with him. The sister of the jnvenile heart breaker said that she herself was the cause of a man's suicide before her marriage. 3IARINK NEWS AND NOTES.
