Discrepan cies have been discovered between the tariff bill as enrolled and passed by the House, and the conference report It appears that the errors are not sub stantial and relate to tho numbering of certain sections. Ths conference committee in drawing up the report neglected to malte any allowances for the action of the Senate in striking out the vinegar sections and carried the numbers forward. Trivial as these errors are they are giving much concern to the passage of the bill, and the members are yet in doubt as to what course shall be pursued. The conference report cannot be changed, and if it be found necessary to correct the errors it will probably have to be done by a joint resolution. The Tariff Bill. Dur ing a recent visit of Major Reginald E. Tracy of the Capo Mounted rifle volunteers of tho Cape of Good Hope, to Mrs. H. Byron Porter, of Shelton street in this city, there was told a Btory which reach like fiction. The central feature of the tale is a portion of a Boston newspaper, which was found in tho fleshless hands of a skeleton in the heart of the wilds of the dark continent Whilo Major Tracy was traveling across tho country fully 1000 miles in land, a party of natives, which were in his escort, were attacked bj a large body of savages and nearly all lu3 fol lowers were slaughtered. Ho and a haudfnl of survivors were taken to tho enemy's camp and kept without food for six days. The captives one by one wero brained and cut up. Seeing that tho major would rather starve than oat human flesh, his captors provided him with other food, which proved not altogether unwholesome. Ho was taken further iuto tho interior and there brought before a chief, who or dered one of his cars to bo cutoff, which being done was thrown to a dog lying at the chieftain's feet, and tho animal devoured -the piece of flesh. After a week of confinement tho major was appointed water carrier, and while making a trip to a stream ho camo acrosa the skeleton of a hu man being in a dense wood clutching a fragment of a Boston paper. Its presence in that region remained a great mystery until after tho major hod escaped, when he learned that a parto of whites several years before had gone on an exploring expedition and had never returned.
