TORTLAND, OK. & F. E. Habersham, the Burveyor, aud D. W. Cummings, "William Eeid's scc retarj', -were in the city yesterday, and went up to Portland last night on the steamer. "When questioned concern ing the floating o the bonds "of the Astoria and South Coast railroad, as reported by telegram and given in yesterday's Astokiax, the gentlemen claimed to be not lully posted. They believe the deal is nearly con summated, but do not claim it is com pleted, but seemed to feel confident that it will be in the near future, and that as soon as auy definite news can be announced it will be given for pub lication hare, that the people of As toria may know the exact condition of affairs. Last night C. J. Curtis went up on the sicamer. and there is no doubt bnt what .he went to interview "William Reid, who is now claimed to be in " 1eadr.1e.NS to FPltle the suit bronaht by t Curtis as Htloruey against the Pacific Construction company. The fact that j Beid wants to settle the claim, and is prepared to do bo, is almost proof posi tive that he has the com to do it with, and if bo, it is likely to be from the sale of the bonds. Another straw is tho fact that Mr. Cummings is preparing to be here dnring the fall and winter, and from a reliable source, though obtained in a roundabout manner, this fact was as certained. If he is coming here, it is because work is to be resumed on the extension of the railroad, and if it i?, 5 it is because of the bond3 having been (sold. j These are the straws which very , clearly indicate tho facts in the case, and are given without any coloriug or exaggeration. As said in the heading of this article, tho prospect is favor able. Time will tell Str. VOLGA, B. F. STEVENS, Master. II"1 J 11 !!
