It scents that the Orcntt boy whose case was mentioned in Tiie Astohiax of Wednesday as being in San Fran cisco mnst have wandered away. IIo was sent to San Francisco on tho steamship Oregon on her last trip down and his father telegraphed to in that city to meet him. Tho boy should have taken the steamer for Eureka at tho same dock where he landed, and was to go to the academy at that place, where his brother Fred is at school, and had money to pay his fare on that steamer, it having been paid on the Oregon from here. He is ten years old. and is accustomed to traveling alone, having been over the route before. The AsroniAX is glad to be able to state that the boy was fully provided for by his relatives here, and eitherlost the money or it was stolen from him. OUR NEXT NEIGHBOR. Interesting Items From the St. Helens "ilist." Dr. "West was circulating among the ducks at Deer island last Saturday, or rather they were circulating too close to him and as a result thirty-six of them met an untimely demise. Seven acres of cabbage is consider able, and will turn out heaps of saur kraut Yet it is none too much for Capt Gore, of the transfer boat, at Goble, he having in about that amount. Mr. W. E. Conyers brought in the scalps of five wildcats and one cougar Monday. Tho cougar was a large one measuring nine feet and two inches. He has killed several of these animals lately. Mrs. Catherine Herzog, of Clatska nie, met with a serious accident at that place last week. She was in the act of carrying a sack of spuds to a wagon, when in some manner she slipped and fell to the earth, fractur ing one of her limbs very badly. She was taken to Portland and J eft in charge of the Good Samaritan hos pital, where it is hoped she will re cover. Tho Potter on her last trip up Sun day night, made the quickest trip she has made this season. She ran a measured forty miles in two hours and three minutes. Captain Troup's new boat, Orey7iound, on her trip to the Sound, ran twenty-one miles in an hour and two minutes. It now re mains for tho Telephone to oomo to the front and beat the record. A singular and almost fatal acci dent occurred tho other day at Snoho mish. Arthur C. Knight and Giles Hoylo went to tho slaughter house to butcher a steer. Hoylo raised his rifle and fired nt the animal. Tho ball glanced from tho skull and striking a knot in a beam above, again glanced, going through the rim of Knight's hat over tho left eye and ripping up two inches of his scalp. Had ho stood an inch further forward it would havo killed him. A party consisting of F. D. Henrici and George Clifford of Sauvie's island, Edward Goro of Scappoose, and E. A. Buth of Toutle river, passed through St Helens Tuesday, en route for their respective homes from a three week's outing at Mt. St. Helens. The gentlemen speak highly of their trip and say that they had an excellent time. They had several specimens of gold and silver oro, which they secured while there, and it is their in tentions to havo it assayed. If it proves to bo such ns will warrant them success, they will return with more thorough equipments to the ledge which they found and develop it They also had other information that would bo interesting to tho readers of tho Mist, but for the want of time, were obliged to cut it short. They didn't forget to mention that they killed one bear and several deer. ISeinarlcable Rescue. Mrs. Michael Curtain. Plainficld, 111., makes the statement that she caught cold which settled on her lungs; she was treated a month by her family phy sician, but grew worse, lie told her she was a Iiopelcss victim of consumption and that no medicine could cure her. Her druggist suggested Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption ; she bought a bottle and to her delight found herself benefited from first dose. She contin ued its use, and after taking ten bottles found herself sound and well, now does her housework and is as well as she ever was. Free trial bottles of this great Discovery at J. W. Several months ago two Englishmen named Barton and Hooper came to Portland purporting to be acting as agents v r the purchase of breweries ou this coast for several English capitalists. They claimed they were negotiating for the purchase of a certain local brewery, also a large brewery iu San Jose, California. They contrived to secure from an Englishman of wealth from Liverpool, something over 500, to be applied as an option for the purchase of the brewery in Portland. Barton and Hooper suddenly disap peared from this city about two months ago and yesterday the friends of tho investor received information to take steps for the arrest of the alleged agents, as they belong to an organized gang, who were working in conjunction with confederates in En gland for the purpose of swindling those anxious of investing in Amer ican enterprises. Parties in San Francisco were wired and replied that two men answering the description of tho bogus agents were seen in that city about a month ago, and they are supposed to have gone to Australia. Steps will be taken to search for and prosecute them but doubts are entertained if a case can be made against them. Itlicuiti:it!m Can Be Cured.
