Thcro is considerable talk of having a county bridge across tho river Ne canicum built this fall. All should put forth their most earnest en deavors to secure the building of this bridge, otherwise thoso who havo private bridges will be able to cinch tho people by making them pay toll to cross their bridges to reach tho ocean beach. In tho deed of the Holladay property, (the Seaside grounds) is a provision for a public way to tho beach, and tho people can havo the use of it by bnilding a bridge at that point Last Saturday morning a fire was discovered in the rubbish along the bank of the Necanicttm river on the premises of J. P. Austin. An alarm was given and all in that neighbor hood turned out and fought it until it was extinguished. Had there been much wind tho pines near the bank would have canght lire, then it would havo been impossible to havesaved tho hotel and other buildings near by. It is not known how tho fire originated, but probably some careless stroller across the bridge threw a lighted cigar stump into the rubbish. AT TIIE AUSUIX IIOTJSE. From Astoria. E. A.
