Pay DiitEcron Williams, of the United States Navy, has brought suit against the Sau Francisco Examiner for libel. The newspaper in exposing the work of a thieving contractor re ferred to Mr. Williams in such man ner as would indicate that he knew what was going on. Mr. Williams may have been damaged, but if his actions were anything like what was published he will have a hard time in getting a jury to award him damages. Again has the fire liend visited Chi cago, and McYicar's theater, that large and elegant building, is in ruins. Several other adjoining buildings were also consumed by the fierce ilames, and the total damage is over half a million dollars. A Card From the 3Inn "With the Hat on His Horn. A criticism on the play of Maude Granger at Boss' opera house last Monday night appeared in the Colum bian the next morning in which the ignorant caviling critic made sarcas tic remarlcs about the cornctist who played with his hat over the bell of his horn. Any one who knows any thing of orchestra playing knows that it is a device often resorted to by good players in piano passages and the Columbian critic only displays his dense ignorance bv his remarks.
