May IL -George Francis i lEraui. vlio arrived here yesterday, gives tit following acoomit of Ins trip around tbe werld: I lmve & fifty-two clays on the way and will finish the journey around tbo world iu ten days more. Remember fuss some ieoile inndo wlicn young womau went around world in seventy two days jud some liours? It was enough to mnke one Hick. Jt was nothing. Any body could do it. Io membor .Tule Verne's Around Hie World in Eighty Days? lie stole my thunder, but JL have beaten Phineas Fogg out of sight. I left Tneoma oa March LS. 1 made trip to Yokohama in sixteen days. There I found that Xorth German Lloyd steamer had been gone two days. She was at Kobe. I asked them to hold her, by wire. They laughed at me. but J hold her 1 wire and engage! special train. I traveled JJfiO miles through interior or Japan. At Nagasaki con sul told me that no foreigner could get passport iu leas than three days. 1 said ll get one iu three seconds or see hkado or bust empire. 1 went to Tokio and got my passport in thirty minutes. ! lolc special train for KoIhj. then I hired a steam launch lo ontch steamship If aural Waihr. J caught her and went to Ilong Kong, but was dehijed outride harbor two days b fog. I left Hong Kong on April 13th and raiched Singapore, a distance of 1.4iS miles, in three and a half days. I was detained thirty hours on the way by rain and cyclone. I jumped to (o himlKt, a distance or 1.517 miles, it fur days, and made another jump of 'SSYXi miles to Aden in six and one- lwir day, 'beating n nst ! v - sx toon knot boat by eighteen houra. 1 wont up the Ked sea to Suck, a distance of 1,"VIS miles, in three and a half days, and got into the canal lrore the 1 A- O. boat. 1 had se.nl won! on to charter a steam launch in case of need, but didn't want it. The steamship Pn ussen didn't catch the mail. sol went aboard the I V O. steamer A rmtUa and went through Suez canal in sixteen horn's. J was at Urindisi two and a half days later, and left lirinditi at 2 r. ;.r. Thursdav. Mav Sth. Uon arriving ::t Calais, J found that then1 was no boat which J could catch. T telegraphed to J)over for a special lxwil and was told that J could have one for -CIO. All right, T said, and the boat came, but there were many people who desired to come, so they charged others 17 shillings a head and changed me nothing. 1 was JC40 a head. 1 reached Calais at i o'clock this morning, telegraphed for a sjccial train from Dover to London, left Dover at noon, arrived in London at 2 v. m.. and will leave at K-20. I've got a dispatch from Cunard line which tells me that if 1 leave on that train J -can catch Etruria at (jiiccnstown and sail in her for New York to-morrow afternoon. 1 will arrive at New York next Saturday. I will then take fast express over New York Central or Pennsylvania railroad and reach Chicago, 1,000 miles, in twenty-four hours. 1 will give reception to press club of Chica go in dining car for one hour, then ! will takesjecial train over Northwest ern railroad for St. Paul and get there iu ten hours. At St. Paul 1 will hire special train on Northern Pacific railroad. It will'cosl .S00 and will earn- me lo Tacoma, distance of 2,000 miles. Arrived at Tacoma 1 shall have been around the world in sixty-two days. Mr. Train paused for the tenth pari or a second, during which he pushed his fez a little further over his left car. and exclaimed: "What do you think of that?" lie did not wait for an answer, but exploded again: I'll startle 'em 1 tell yeu: I'll tell em what a man with brains and purpose can do. 1 built the first tram way in London. 1 built the Northern Pacific railroad. I have been candidate against Grant and Greeley. I've done more than all presidents, from "Wash ington to Ben Harrison. Pretty father of his country was "Washingten: why. he never had a child of his own. I'll tell some truths when I get home. I tell yon that if you are owed any money over there, get it inside of thirty days, or you will never see i!. The country's going losmah. and I'm going to smash il, The glittering eyes of the old cam paigner snaped as he rallied on, say ing occasionally that his mental and physical iowers were never more virile in spite of his GO ears. His trip, he predicted, would give birth to a thou sand books :uul remain a record until lie saw fit to break it, Tor he claimed to have lost twelve days b accident or more vexations delays. Many people. he said, had called to see him during the few hours of his stay in London. In mentioning some of their names he suddenly paused, and, as if the words had been fired out of a gun in a hurry, exclaimed: "Extraordinary, isn't it? Of 209 members of parliament I once knew, only one is alive. From him. Sir Hugh Childers. I . received a note say ing he would call 'on me; but I'll be off before he gets here," Mr. Train looked in first class health and, in spite or the somewhat erratic manner in which he at times expressed himself, particularly when he declared that he was a socialist, and anarchist, atheist and several other ists. none or whom would make a pleasant bedfel low, was never at a loss to tell the dif ference between a half crown and a two-shilling piece. He and his secre tary, S. W. Wall, of Tacoma. left for Qnecustown on the S20 o'clock train this evening. London, May 11. That cheerful C3nic, George Francis Train, em barked safefy on the Etruria for New York, a goodly company of admiring Americans being present to bid him bon voyage The papers devoto a good deal of space to Mr. Train, but seem quite puzzled as to his proper classification, whether among the geniuses or the cranks of America. The former rating is insisted upon by some writers who remember him as the brilliant inventor and orator of days gone by and who re naiod us that we are indebted to him for our tram car. while less favorable comment is made by others who can Bot convince themselves that the gen ial philosopher's expressions of anar chistic sentiments should be condoned. All agree at least that in his present aterprisc he is likely to succeed in beating previous records.
