Lasher, came to this city from Napa, California, to take the presidency of the Spokane col lege. For about two weeks a sensa tion has been brewing in the college, which is the leading educational in stitution in Washington, which ended Call Early and Take Your to-day in the trustees demanding the resignation of Lasher. He is said to be a good teacher, but his financial ability is poor. He had full charge of the college, including the boarding department of lxth the young ladies and the boys. He always made it a practice to collect in ad vance from the scholars, but what he did with the money is a mys tery. The faculty are clamoring for their salaries and pupils for more to eat. The trustees have tried to get an accounting with Lasher but thus far have been unable. The book3 liave been turned over to them but they arc in such sbajw that nothing can be made out of them. Lasher in addition to running behind in his account-., has made himself very obnox ious to the scholars, especially to the young ladies. Koehler said: "We have made great progress on the temporary new line from a jwint where the track was submerged to the slide, around which a good road has been built. The working force is being increased every day aud in a few days more our entire operating force will number 4,500 men. Tho whole ne from upper connection to the landslide is covered with men. The Portfind division has moved ahead to Unjon creek about five and a half miles from West Forks, where Ave will have two or three days work on the landslide. As soon as that point is reached our forces will work toward the forces from the other division slides at the forks, about 19.i miles in extent. The report that the transcontinental sys tem has been arranged between the Dnlnth Sc Winnipeg, Canadian Pa cific, and Dnluth, South Shore & At lantic, was semi-officially confirmed to-day. The proposed route will be from west to east via Winnipeg, Du- luth and Lake Shore line. It will be 15 miles shorter than the Canadian Pa cific.
