Blood Diseases are cured by
the persevering use of Ayer's I
Sarsaparilla. :
This medicine is an Alterative, and
causes a radical change in the system
The process, in some cases, may not be
quite so rapid as in others ; but, with
persistence, the result is certain.
Head these testimonials .
" For two years I suffered from a se
vpre pain in my right sjile, ami had
other troubles caused by a torpid liver
and dyspepsia. After giving several
medicines a fair trial without a ure, I
began to take Ayer's Sarsaparilla. I
was greatly benefited by the hrst bottle,
and after taking five bottles I was com
pletely cured." John W. !eioii, 70
Lawrence St., Lowell, Mass.
Last May a large carbuncle broke out
on my ami. The usual remedies had no
effect and I was confined to my bed for
eirht weeks. A friend induced ine U try
Ayer's Sarsaparilla. Los- than thieo .

Wonderful Results,,
Another marked effect of the use of. this
medicine was the strengthening of my
sight." Mrs. Carrie Adams, Holly
Springs, Texas.
" I had a dry .scaly humor for years,
and suffered terribly; and. as my broth
er and sister were similarly afilicted, I
presume the malady is hereditary. Last
winter, Dr. Tyron, (of Fornandina,
Fla.,) recommended me to take Ayer's
Sarsaparilla, and continue it for a year.
For live mouths I took it daily. I have
not had a blemish upon my body for the
last three months." T. E. Wiley, Hti
Chambers St., New York City.
" Last fall and winter I was troubled
with a dull, heavy pain in my side. I
did not. notice it much at first, but it
gradually grew worse until it became
almost unbearable. During the latter
part of this time, disorders of the stom
ach and liver increased my troubles. I
began taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and,
after faithfully continuing the use ol
this medicine for some months, the pair
disappeared and 1 was completely
cured." Mrs. Augusta A. Furbush

! it i.i ksmls of j.otuttit:') Vt.ty
vuii-. iu their habits of growth, ami
these" must be understood it they are
tn be rowa with success. Some nec-il
in be planted further apart thai:
otheis. Some require deep planing,
while others set their tuber? at about
the same depth wherever the scid
cntting may be put. The old fash
ioned peachblow had wide spreading
roots, that pretty fully occupied the
soil from hill to hill, if planted in
rows three ft et apart each va. IL-bt
of the newer kinds of potatoes, espec
ially of l he rose family, bunch their
tubei.s .ill iu a heap, making them
easily fin?. With the peachblow it
was hard to it!! when all the potatoes
belonging to :. bill were secured. If
the earth were not piled up conicaliy
about the plant, then roots with iarye
IiiLl-i.s attached could often be found
a loot from the hill, or even in the
middle of the rows. The peachblow
also usually pet pretty deeply, while
the eaily llo.se is apt to besunecalded
or greened, no matter how carefully
the earth is piled around the hill.
In case of rot, the depth at which the
tubers naturally set is a matter of
much importance. The White Star
and other deep setting potatoes do
not roWso quickly as those which set
at or just beneath the surface. 'I he
spores of the disease which cause mt
fall from the vines to the tubers, if
they are near the top of the ground,
and in case of heavy rains they are
can ied down to those beneath. Of
ten when digging potatoes that were
rotting badly, we have found the only
sound ones deep down at tho bottom
of tho hill.
A great difference exists among
various sorts of potatoes in with
standing excessive moisture. Some
are very thin-skinned, or, rather, tender-skinned,
and rot easily. Tho late
Beauty of Hebron and tho late J lose
are specimens of this class. It is said
that both these varieties were orig
inated by sports, one from tho early
rose, and the other from the
early lieauty of Hebron. They are
very strong, rampant growers, and in
dry seasons will yield heavily, but al
ways ripen late. So far as our expe
rience goes, potatoes that nie equally
vigorous and prolific, but which orig
inated from the seed ball, are less
likely to rot than these two varieties.
The Peerless and the White Star came
from the seed, and are good keepers,
but the Monroe seedlinsr. which much
resembles the White Star, and is
thought by some to be only a sport,
rots pretty badly. Ii grows more
vigorously than the White Star, and
the cause of its poor keeping qualities
may be immaturity, leaving its skin
thinner, and more liable to rut) oil" in
Handling. Whatever may be the
caupe, potatoes that have been kept
wet all summer are diOicult to save
from rot in the fall. This is espe
cially R-ne where tho potato blight
came as the tubers were only half
grown, and kept them from matur
ing. Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria

Forty years ago Colonel Seaton,
then mayor of the city of Washington, j
as was bis custom gave a large dinner
party at which I was present. In the
course of the fentertainment the im
portance of one vote ancl its conse
quences and good results was, among
other things, the subject of conversa
tion, aud Governor Corwin, then
United States senator, narrated in his
inimitable manner, the following to
show, as he said, the bad results as
well as the importance of one vole and
how a pig, from whom the devil had
not been cast out, nearly, in his esti
mation, ruined the country, to wit:
"In the spring of 1811, at the anuual
election in Rhode Island, in one of the
towns or precincts the voting between
the Federal and Republicans, or
Democratic, Peace or War, parties
had beeu for years very close, not
more than a majority of one or two
votes. The polls closed at G o'clock,
and a Federal farmer living a mile or
so distant from the voting place,
having been busy all day, allowing
himself just barely time "to reach the
polls in the evening. He hurriedly
crossed his fields on foot and reaching
his last, or division fence, found one
of his valuable pigs fast between the
planks and stopped to get it out,
which he found more difficult than
he expected, but he worked with
all his strength to pull the
pig out, and failing in that tried to
pry off a plank from the fence, which,
after some time, .he succeeded in do
ing, and then started on a run for tho
voting place. Just as he got within
100 feet of it the town clock struck G
and the polls closed without his vote.
Tho result was that a Democrat, or
war representative from that town,
was elected by one vote. When the
general assembly met a few weeks
afterward a Democratic, or war, Unit
ed States senator was chosen on joint
ballot by one majority. In 1812 the
declaration of war with England was
carried in the United States Senate by
one vote. General Jackson was nom
inated as a major-general and con
firmed by one vote. On January 8, 1815,
he commanded the battle of New Or
leans, gained a great victory, became
a popular military hero, and as his re
ward wjis elected and re-elected presi
dent of the United States, turned all
tho whigs nut of office, removed the
deposits, vetoed the National bank
bill, and played the devil generally;
and all because that pig away up
in Rhode Islaud got fast in a plank
fence." Indianapolis' Sentinel.
