Blood Diseases are cured hy
the persevering use of Ayer's

This medicine is an Alterative, and
causes a radical change in the system
The process, in some cases, may not he

persistence, the result is certain.
Head these testimonials :

" Last fall and winter I was troubled
with a dull, heavy pain in my side. I
did no" notice it much at first, but it
gradually grew worse until it became
almost unbearable. During the latter
part of this time, disorders of the stom

How Pierce the Notorious Stock Thief
' Was Captured.
A remarkable instance of resolu
tion and pluck was recently exem
plified in the conduct of a woman in
' eastern Oregon, by the arrest of
I Pierce, one of the three recentlv ap
prehended stock thieves, who are now
iu ''durance vile," awaiting their
trial in Idaho county, I. T. They,
undoubtedly are members of a gang
of desperate outlaws, who infest the
entire country from the Missouri
river to the Columbia. They have
been operating in north Idaho to
some extent, and as we are informed,
have succeeded in running ofFseveral
hundred head of cattle and horses.
How long they have been "plying
their vocation'' among them is not
definitely known. By their adroir
uess it is evident they have success
fully "covered their tracks" for some
time. But fcteru old justice has at
last "bit the trail'' of these precious
scoundrels aud three of them are now
lauguishingin the Idaho county jail,
simply awaiting the theatre of for
mal justice at the next teim of court,
after which the turn key at the Boise
penitentiary will shut out for them
the light of freedom, and the outlines
of "slickears.'" Pierce is one of this
trio, and thero is some practical ro
mance in the history of his capture.
Ho was "tracked," together with two
of his confederates, into Wallowa
county, where two of them were cap
tured. Pierce eluded tho officers and
secreted himself in the timber and
among the hills. After publishing a
reward for his arrest the officers re
turned with the others to Idaho
county. Pierce remained concealed
for several days; in fact until ho was
literally "starved out," when he cau
tiously visited the farm house of
a mau whose narao is is Brnmly, and
begged for food. It so happened
that Mr. B. was absent at the time
and in search of Pierce, nis wife
and hired man were at home, and
Mrs. R prepared a meal for Pierce
ol which ho ate voraciously. He then
left the house aud struck across the
field in which thero were some hay
stacks, qnito distant from the house,
and hid iu the hay. Mrs. B. sus
pected he was tho fngitive advertised
for, and watching his movements,
suggested to the hired man that he
take the guu and arrest Pierce. The
man had no relish for such au ex
periment and declined. Mrs. B. said,
"if. you won't go after him, In ill."
The man conseuted to accompany
her as a body guard, and procuring a
rope tho plncky little woman raided
the unsuspectiug Pierce, who was, no
doubt, preparing himself for an after
dmuer nap. The sudden appearance
of Uie woman, rrope, man and gun,
quite disorganized Pierce's nerve
forces and Mrs. B's nimble fingers
soon had bis arms pinioned and he
was escorted to tho house. There
tho woman securely shackled him
with a long chain and" padlocks and
leaving him in custody of the hired
man, weut to the barn, harnessed and
hitched the team; when the prisoner
was loaded into the wagou aud taken
by Mrs. B, to the town of Joseph,
where she delivered him to tho pro
per authorities for extradition to
Idaho. We presume that Mrs. B. has
been paid the amount of the reward
placed on Pierce's head: she certainly
deserves it together with a medal for
her exceptional courage and tact in
apprehending a desperado whose pro
per spnere of exertion is within the
caatle walls of the penitentiary. Wo
commend her to the deteotive craft,
and 11 we are ever a fugitive from
justice we would prefer to encounter
that "hired man," alone, than to com
bat the relentless will of the woman
who gave him such an impressive
object lesson iu cool bravery, and
furnished to the world another dem
onstration of the fact, that the will of
a willful woman, when willfully
willed, will often brave dangers, in
the face, of which the stoutest hearts
of men have quailed and their
boasted courage vanished as rapidly
and effectually as did the "wolf meal"
which our Oregon heroine set before
this "Knight of the range" and ani
mator of hay stacks.

mo case, most unnatural, oxcosssvely debili
tating. Tho organs aro incapacitated from

ation. An astringent is resorted to which re
duces them to their formor condition of in

surdity, llostetter's Stomach Bitters is tho
happy alternative. It relaxes gently, natur
ally, sufficiently, it diverts bile from th blood
into its proper channel, it insures healthful
digestio and complcto assimilation. It is a
complete defense against malaria, conquers
rheumatism, neuralgia, nervousness, Kidnev
and bladder trouble.
