Seattle, Oct. 21. The directors of
the Seattle & Southern railroad were
to meet this morning at San Fran
cisco and decide whether or not the
company would proceed with the con
struction of the road. The officials
of the roud who remained in this oity,
say there is no question but that the
directors will decide to build the road
and bridge the Columbia river at
Vancouver. Colonel Thomas Ewing
and Cyrus Walker, one of the direc
tors, left for San Francisco on Satur
day evening.

portion of West Sixth street, in the City
of Astoria, Clatsop county, Oregon, as
laid out and recorded by J. M. bliively,
from the south side of Water street to
the south side of Wall street, by remov
ing nil defective piles, caps and string
ers, on that portion between tho south
side of Water street and the south side
of Cedar street and replacing them
with new and sound piles, caps
and stringers, and by planking the
same to its established grade and
to the full width of the street with
new and sound fir planks four inches in
thickness, and by building sidewalks
on both sides thereof; and by grading
that portion between the south side of
Cedar street and the south side of
Wall street to its established grade and
