A Satisfied Sucker.
"Wliv rlnn't von rmlfcivate a. little
style?" asked a Trout of a Sucker
whom he happened to meet. "wny
do you insist on living in this mud
hole and never visit tho clear cold
orrrnfrq Tjimhfir HTJ VOUr bodv and
hire somebody to get a section of a
rainbow and sprinkle it over you. I
would not live like you for anything,
rrnhrrinrr nwav all the time for a
meal in the mud. Flies form a de
licious diet. Just look at that beauty
there which has just dropped on tue
water. Just watch me take him and
then envy the life of a Trout."
Saying this the Trout made a dash
for the fly and seized it. But the fly
had buried in it a steel hook, and on
tbe hook was a hue, and on the line
a rod, and an angler held the rod.
The Trout soon disappeared from the
water, and the next noise he made
was when he was sizzling over a fire.
:,It may be nice enough to be a
Trout," philosophized the Sucker,
"but I would rather be a poor, de
spised Sucker, with no rainbow at
tachments, in a ruml hole than a
Trout in a frying pan."

The Knights of Labor.
St. Louis, Oct. 1. The gonoral
executive board of .the Knights of
Labor began a session here to-day.
General Master Workman Powderly
said that the spssion was a regnlnr
one. Referring to tbe reports that
people would bring charges against
him, he said that he had come with
his truuk full of papers bearing on
the great southwestern strike, and
stood ready to answer all charges.
He said that he was opposed to the
appointment of Furlong as chief of
the government secret service. Tue
reason is Furlong's persecution of
the men engaged in the southwestern
strike, who were innocent of all
wrong doing. His protest, he aaid,
is made both as an individual and as
the spokesman of the Knights of
Labor.
To-night Powderly addressed a
mass meeting of local assemblies? and
boldly denounced his enemies.
