Lancaster, O., July 21. One of the most disastrous storms ever known in the Hocking valley culmin ated yesterday in the breaking of Sharp's dam at Sugar Grove, on the Hocking canal. The dam held in store a large body of water that sup plied the lower levels of the canal. Heavy rains had filled the reservoir to its banks, when suddenly the dam gave way aud the water went out through the valley, taking with it every movable object. For twenty mile3 the soil is plowed up. Trees, fences, crop3 and hundreds of head of live stock were swept away. No lives were lost, because the houses are situated on a bluff that overlooks the valley. But the canal for miles is n wreck, and thousands of feet of tailroad track are washed awav.
