Bruns, Her list comprised 2,043 in the steerage and two in the cabin. The immigrants were divided as 1,448 adults, 420 children and 179 infants Eleven were citizens of the United States, and the immigration tax of 50 cents a head collected on 2,035 aliens amounting to 1,017. A trout fancier at Oil City, Pa., had ninety-one brook trout thriving in a pond. A few days since, when the basin was being cleaned, he had the trout removed and placed in a tub filled with very cold spring water. An hour after only two of them were living, the others having died from the sudden change of temperature in the water. Joseph Strom:, a man of 40 con fessed, on his dying bed in a New York hospital the other day, that he had been marned sixteen dirterent times in the last seven years, and that he believed all his wives to be living.
