Beginning to Worry the Mossbacks.
It has sometimes been a question
in our mind whether a railroad run
ning through this county to Astoria
will not be a detriment to us. It
seems a ridiculous thing to assert
especially when every community in
the United States i3 howling for a
railroad and jubilant when a rail
road is even talked of. But we are
peculiarly situated. Delay the rail
road a few years and the government
will make Tillamook bay a harbor
for deep water vessels, and all our
timber will be sawed here producing
a great income to us. We would
have a possibility with Yaquina of
being ourselvea a terminal point of a
transcontinental railroad which
would be something worth while.
Let the railroad be put through now
and we come to be a flag station, the
same as North Yamhill is. Of course
the HeadligJit would rather see the
glare of another headlight if it did go
on to Astoria than take any chances
on the future. Tillamook, Head
