i A Robust Toothache once moved
into the molar of a Cbnstiau Healer
nud proceeded to make itself at
home.
The Healer had spent that day, and
ao many days preceding it assuring
his patients that their sufferings had
uo Real Existence, that he had-come
to look upon the physical ills of man
kind with Lofty Scorn, and W des
pise the weakness which acknowl
edged Pain.
He therefore calmly continued to
treat a case of spinal irritation then
iu hand, totally disregarding the
none too gentle titillatious which
were running through his inferior
dental nerve.
After a time, finding that his tooth
ached 'with a fury that refused to be
disregarded, ha proceeded to give
himself one of his two dollar treat
ments, thus: "Evil doth not exist;
pain is evil; therefore pain hath no
existence; hence there cau be no pain
iu my tooth.'
At this logical demon3tratou the
Robust Toothache smiled grimly, ami
gave the dental pulp o bang so power
ful that the Christian Healer was un
able to suppress a mournful howl,
but he heroically preceeded:
"Tho pain I seem to feel in my
tooth is not an actual existence; it is
merel an evil thought brought about
oy an operation oi tue lmeueci; j. win
nut a cood in its place aud the dis-
oomfort conceived by my mind will
cease."
On hearing this the Robust Tooth
ache rolled up his sleeves aud went
to work in earnest. It jumped with
both feet upon the quivering nerve
ends and stamped, kicked, squeezed
and tueeed at them with so savage a
vigor that when the blear-eyed dawn
began to brighten in the east, the
Christian Healor, who had spent the
night in walking up and down, moan
ing and trying to convince himself
that it was only a bad idea he was
suffering from, was in a thoroughly
knocked out condition.
The Toothache, with all the f resh
uesa of youth, continued to play a
stormv fantasia upon his nerve
ends.
Suddeulyhe seized his hat and
coat with a frantic haste.
"Where are you going, Edward?"
inquired his wife, who wa3 also a
metapysioal healer.
"I'm going to have this d d
tooth pulled out," he said shortly.
"J?am has no real existence, re
plied his wife, calmly; "you kuow
that. Edwad."
"Shut up, woman 1" he yelled.
"Who's got the toothache, you or
me?" and slamming the front door
behind him he made a bpe-liue for
the nearest dentist F. 11. S. King,
in Medical Visitor.
Milton Applegate shot himself at
his residence in Yoncalla, Or., Sun
day at 4 p. m., June 23. He had been
drinking heavily of pure alcohol three
or four days, and his mind had be
come so worked up that he evideutly
knew not what he was doing, (ioing
into the kitchen, ho told his wife that
he would kill himself, and walking
into the next room, he deliberately
took a Winchester rille containing
two cartridges, placed the muzzle
against the left side of his head just
above the ear, pulled the trigger and
the cartridge iustautly sped on its
fatal course, coming out at the crown
of his head. He fell on the floor
aud oxpired without a struggle. The
wound was quite small and it re
quired close examination to see
where the ball came ont at the crown
of his head.
Mr. Applegate was buried at the
Yoncalla cemetery, Monday, June 21,
where a large number of relaives and
friends attended. Ho leaves a wife
and six small children. Ho was the
youngest of sixteen children, Charles
aud Melinda Applegate being his
parents. He was in his 33lh year,
was a very large and remarkably
stout, healthy man. He had for
years been iu the habit of taking
drinking spells, and had often ex
pressed to friends his intention to
kill himself, alleging as a c-iiise that
he was a disgrace to his friends by
drinking to such excess. When not
under the influence of liquor ho was
a kind, genial gentleman, a good citi
zen, a generous neighbor, a kind
husband and father. Drain Echo.
DYSPEPSIA.
IS that misery experienced when we sud

diabolical arrangement called a stomach.
The stomach is the reservoir from which
every fibre and tlsue must be nourished,

dyspeptics no t wo will have the samo pre
