One Way of Getting into the Paris Ex

.It is a matter of wearisome difll

tcr. TTo is a famous mao, with a
large, flabby and expansive exterior,
and a countenance that has maintain

and monkoy flushes in many exciting
situations.

"We can't get in;" said I, nodding
toward a French jonrnalist who was
with me. The great American cam
blef took the" nod for an introduction,
ctrasiied the hand of the man by my
side, and said he was very glnd to see
him. Then he' remarked:
"If you -wanter go iu, follow me.
in case anybody stops you, say i m a
orince and nas3 on. Little old Amer
ican game of bluff. Play up clo.se
under and we 11 "Win out."
He pulled himself together aud
stalked majestically toward the main
crate, where about a dozen policemen
stood on guard. Without so much
as glancing at them, the American
sporting man threw his head in the
air and stalked haughtily through
the gale. On the way he trod one or
twd small boya under foot and push
ed several 'women to the wall, but no
one had tho'courage to stop him till
he was twenty feet within tho grounds.
Then a courageous officer stepped in
front of him and barred tho way.
About the same moment halt.a dozen
policemen surronnded us and the
French journalist at my side called
out excitedly:
"Monsieur le Prince!"
The gambler whirled around when
ho heard tho voice and stared at our
detainer with a look of snch majestic
and outraged hauteur and surprise
that the police fell back to a man and
touched their hats with abject .hu
mility. Then we walked on as guests
of honor and distinction.
"They think I'm a prince every
where on th' oontinong,"a said the
gambler complacenty, forging ahead,
"because I always drink champagne
an' wear me sparks in th' mornin.' "
He looked affectionately at his
"sparks," as he called his diamond,
and plowed ahead.
We encountered many difficulties
after that from the different guards
and polioemen staitioned at the more
inaccessible points of the exhibition,
bnt in every instance the extraordin
ary bearing and majestic carriage of
the prince carried us through. At the
entrance to the mam steps of the
Eiffel tower a guard was placed who
had received instructions to admit
nobody, but we wont up the tower in
the gambler's wake with only a verbal
protest rans Letter.
