Tho consolidation of tho North
Chicago Boiling Mill, the Union Steel
company and the Joliet Steel com
pany, it turns out, is intended not
only to facilitate the production of
all sorts of iron and steel forms, but
also to develop a new industry in this
countrv, the manufacture of tin
plate. "We are much nearer the
manufacture ot tin-plate than peo
ple suppose," said Orrin W. Potter,
president of the North Chicago Boil
ing Mill company. "The first steel
rail made in America was made in
Chicago. I was present at the cere
mony. I expect the first tin-plate
turned out in America to be turned
out in Chicago, and I expect to be
present at the ceremony. The North
Chicaeo Rolhnir Mill company or
rather its legal predecessor, made the
one. and it or rather its legal suc
cessor, will turn out the other. The
difficulties which confronted it at
the first epoch were incomparably
greater than thoso which confront it
now. It succeeded then, and it will
all the more easily succeed now."
In ten days Mr. Potter, aooom-
nnmed bv a Dartv -of tin-mate men
and an expert familiar with the Euro
pean mmes, will visit the uibck mils
in Dakota, to gain fall information
as to the extent of the block tin de
posit there, investigate the at
tempts already made to reduce the
ore and secure specimens for some
scientific experiment "What are
the most notable consequences which
would follow the establishment of
this industry in America?'' was asked.
To begin with, the country would
keep among her own inhnbi
tants from 820,000,000 to 352,
000,000 a year a constantly
increasing amount which she now
sends 'abroad, the moment she can
supply her own demand. Then there
would be an awakening in the steel
business incident upon the demand
for steel plates on which to veneer
the tin. The commercial importance
ot these two items can hardly be esti
mated." "How soon do you expect
to make your first tin-plate?" "Our
experiments will begin as soon as our
consolidation is complete. It may be
years before we obtain successful re
sults, but it will not be many."

The True Wife.
Oftentimes I have seen a tall snip
glide by against the tide as if drawn
by some invisible bowline, with a
hundred strong arms pulling it. Her
sails were unfilled, her streamers were
drooping, she iad neither side-wheel
nor stern-wheel; still she moved on
stately, in serene triumph, as with her
own life. But I kneir, that on the
other side of the ship, hidden beneath
the great bulk tnat swam so majestic
ally, there was a little toilsome steam
tug, with a heart of fire and arms of
iron, that was tugging it bravely on;
and I knew if the little steam
tug untwined her arm, and left the
ship, it would wallow and
roll about, and drift hither and thither,
and go off with the refluent tide, no
man knows whither. And so I have
known more than one genius, high
decked, full freighted, full sailed, gay
pennoned, but that for the bare, toil
ing arms, and brave, warm beating
heart of the faithful little wife that
nestled close to him, so that no wind
or wave could part them, would have
gone down with the stream, and have
been heard of no more. O. W.
Holmes.

DYSPEPSIA.
iS that misery experienced when we sud

labollcal arrangement called a stomach.
Tho stomach Is the reservoir from which
every fibre and tlssne must bo nourished,
and any trouble with It Is soon felt through
out the whole system. Among a dozen
dyspeptics no two will have tho same pre

mental power and a bilious temperament
are subject to Sick Headache; those,
fleshy andphlegmatlc have Constipation,
while the thin and nervous are abandoned
to gloomy forebodings. Some dyspeptics
