Notice is hereby given that the Com
mon Council propose to establish the
grade of Squemoque street in the City
of Astoria as laid out and recorded by
John McCIure, as follows, to wit:
At its intersection with Spruce street
at a height of 83 feet above tho base of
grades, as established by Ordinance
No. 71 of the City of Astoria, entitled an
"Ordinance establishing a" base of
grades for the streets of Astoria"; at its
crossing with Jackson street at a height
of 53 feet above said base of grades; at
its crossing with Polk street at a height
of 33 feet above said base of grades ; at
its crossing with Genevieve street at a
height of 19 feet above said base of
grades; and at its intersection with the
claim line between the donation land
claims of John HcClure and J. M.
Shively at a height of 19 feet above said
base of grades, and unless a remon
strance signed by the owners of two
thirds of the property fronting on said
said portion of said street bo filed with
the Auditor and Police Judgo within
five daj s of the final publication of this
notice, to wit: on or before 3Ioml.iv,
Mav 20th. 1889, the Common Council
will establish said grade.

title 23, enacts that "No person shall kill
any otter, mink, marten, table, or fur seal,
or other tur-bearlng animal within the lim
its of Alaska Territory, or in the waters
thereof; and every person guilty thereof
shall, tor each offense-, be lined not less than
two hundred nor more than one Thousaud
dollars, or Imprisoned not more' than six
months, or botn, and all essels. their tackle,
apparel, furniture, and cargo, found en
gaged In violation ol this Section shall be
lorielled. but the Secretary ol the Treasury
shall have power to authorize the killing of
tot any such mink, marten, sable, or other
iur-ueanng animal, except mr seals, under
such regulations a he may prescribe, and it
shall be the duty of the Secretary to pre
vent the killing of any fur seal, and to pro
vide for the execution ot the provisions of
this Section until it is otherwise provided by
law, nor shall he grant any special privileg
es under this Section."
Section 3 of the act entitled "An act to
provide for the protection of the salmon
tlsherles ot Alaska," approved March 2,1889,
provides that :
"Section 3. That Section 1338 of the Re
vised Statutes of the United btatei Is here,
by declared to Include and apply to all the
dominion of the United States tn.tho waters
ot Retiring Sea, and it shall be the, duty of
the President at a timely reason in each
year, to issue his proclamation, and cause
the same to be published for ono month at
least In one newspaper (it any uch thero
be) published at each United states port of
entry on tho Pacific coast, warningall per
sons against entering such waters for the
purpose ot violating tho provisions ot said
section, and he shall also cause one or more
vessels of the United States to diligently
cruise, said waters and arrest all persons and
seize all vessels found to be or to have been
engaged In any violation of the laws ol the
United States therein."
Now therefore, I, Benjamin Harrison,
President of tho united Mates, pursuant to
the above recited Statutes, hereby warn all
Bersons against entering the waters of
ehrlug Sea, within the dominion of the
United States, for the purpose of violating
tho provisions of said section lssc,. Revised
Statutes; and I hereby proclaim, that all
pcrsonsfoundtobe.orto have been engaged
in any violation of the laws of the United
states, in said waters, will be arrested and
punished as above provided, and that.all
vessels so employed, their tackle, apparel,
furniture and cargoes will be seized end
forfeited.
