At the state and nary department this morning the same reply, which is now becoming somewhat monot onous, "We have no information," is made in answer to the request for 'some news regarding the alledged destruction of the Xfipsic. Walker Blaine says Jthe depart ment of state utterly discredits the story. It now appears that the United btates othcial wno was stationed at Auckland, the nearest cable point to Samoa, rejoined the Ifipsic some time ago. Neverthe less, the navy department holds that it would be informed speedily of the reported engagement through the United States consul at Auckland had any such thine: happened. So in order to forward the news to Berlin the Olga must have run over to Auckland, and at least her arrival there would have been reported, if indeed the secret of her mission to the cable station did not leak out through some of the sailors. Captain Mul lan, of the Nipsic, was ordered to protect and use his good offices. These were in substance like the instructions given Admiral Kimb erley, which at the time they were issued were regarded in some quarters as being too narrow and inadequate to carry out. The popular wish may be recalled, however, that Secretary Whitney said at the time in a communica tion before the house naval com mission that it was as far as he could go then in the absence of a declared policy on the part of the government in regard to Samoa. Swept by the Tide of Popularity To the topmost pinnacle of success Hostet ter's Stomach Bitters stands a shining proof of what genuine merit, backed by the living force of proven facts, can attain. The North and South American continents, Europe, Au stralia, the West Indies, Guatemala and Mexico have all contributed wide patronage and testimony of the most favorable kind but unsolicited to swell the reputation of this sterling remedy. Among the maladies for which the most convincing public and Srofessional testimony proves that it is a enlgn curative, are chills and fever, bilious remittent, dumb ague and ague cake, ds pensia, liver complaint, nervousness, debility kidney and bladder complaints. It miti gates the Infirmities of age, hastens conva lescence, has a tendency to prevent ill con sequences from exposure and exhaustion. Persons of sedentarv habits and laborious occupations will find It an ever useful tonic. A New Town. Chicago, March 11. Last June the editors of the leading agricultural papers of the county visited Northern Montana and they were so favorably impressed that they formed a stock company with $200,000 capital to found a colony and build a town. The members of this company met here Saturday. The proposed town will bo located in the center of the tract, 300 by 100 miles in extent, lying north of the Missouri river in the northeast corner of the territory, and will be sit uated across the river from Fort Belknap. Fall River, Mass., March 11. A weavers' strike for an advance in wages occurred this morning, and is one of the most' general in the history of labor troubles here. The weaving departments of fifty mills are practically shut down, six thousand weavers are idle. The extent of the strike is a sur prise to the- managers, who ex pected only a few mills to be involved. A bitter struggle is anticipated. THE FIRST SYMPTOMS OF DEATH. There are fifteen or sixteen candidates for governor of Ari zona, among them George Christ and George Wolfly, of Tombstone. Ex-Attorney-General S. B. Bradford, of Kansas, has a good chance of being appointed gov ernor of Utah. Many candidates are in the field for governor of Montana. Colonel J. D. McCutchen, L". E. Hors field and T. C. Power are the most prominent. In New Mexico the candidates are Joseph Dwyer and Judge Bradford, of the territory, A. C. Morrison and General Bowman. C. H. Harris has come to Washington to push his claims for governor of Alaska. He has four teen rivals in Michigan, three in Wisconsin, two in Nebraska, one in Iowa and half, a dozen or more in different parts of the country. IUKENTS ckimlvally liable. More than nalf t all deaths occur before six years of age. An army of in nocent, lovely children arc swept need lessly away each year. Parents are criminally responsible for this. The death rate of children in England is less than half this. Acker's English Baby Soother has done more to bring this about than all other causes combined. You cannot afford to bo without it. J. W. Conn, Druggist. Resigning Officials. Washington," March" ll.'s Judge Care, solicitor of the treas ury, has tendered his resignation to take effect upon the qualifica tion of his successor. B.
