building in Tacoma, ana ne was
asked if the news was correct.
He renlied that it was. and said
that the purchase of the Oregon
Kailway cc navigation lines oi
railroads and boats, was a part of
the arbitratiou plan, under the
terms of whieh the Union Pacific
will sftcure an entrance to Tacoma
over the Northern Pacific com
pany's line.
This arbitration contract is an
norppment between the Northern
Pacific and Union Pacific com
panies to place control of all com
petitive lines in eastern Washing
ton and Oregon in the hands of
five managers, to be appointed by
the parties to the agreement. A
flnnHitinn connected with the con
tract is the control of the Oregon
Kailway s .Navigation company,
and this is the subject under dis
missinn in New York to-day.
Four put of six of the Oregon
Kailway & .Navigation executive
committee renresented the North
ern Pacific, and the other two the
Union Pacific, and as all are in fa
vor of the plan the sale is bound
to be consummated.
