InniH W.,, mlmn u , nrirhtlnn ' ;i V iiiulu I.UV iiiicii an uuui.iwii is not platted. Big crowds of peop.lo are after corner lots, but as tho minister says, they can't take 'em to heaven with them. If there iia us it uiuciiuuua ii i uau iui uuui seats among ihe angels as there is for inside--awl ontsido property, both in Tacoma and Seattle, at this time, St. Peter would have to put up a placard at the heavenly gates with "Standing room only!" emblazoned on it. A real estate dealer said yesterday that he "had all sorts of people "listed" with him. A scrubber at the Tacoma bought two lots from him Jast Feb ruary, costing $450 $90 down and 50 per month. He sold them for him yesterday for 2,200. He also had a physician in Ohio for whom ho invested 1,000 one year ago, and. had just cleaned up $10,200 for him. Is it any wonder there is a rush to get rich quick? How long this thing is going to last is a conundrum. Captain William B. Cobb, who was an officer of the United States navy with Faragut when "amid shot and shell and fire of hell" he passed up the Mississippi river twenty-seven years ago to New Orleans, and who has since been a steamship captain in the mer chant marine service, is a familiar figure on Pacific avenue. He is marine surveyor for the board of marine underwriters of San Fran cisco and u thorough master of his business. During the past season he has surveyed twenty-five wheat ships here. In discussing the tow. age question on the Sound, cap tain Cobb said it was a sort of go-as-you-please now with tho tug owners and that when statehood comes, some stringent regualtions should be made relating to both towage and pilotage. It had been a -fruitful source of trouble in San Francisco until the merchants got together and organized a mer chants' lino of tugs. Tho cost here for towing a ship from capo Flattery to Seattle or Tacoma and return is about S409 or 450, and the tug that tows the vessel in de mands the right to tow it out. Both Seattle and Tacoma should be made sub-ports of entry and it would frequently save the whole amount of towage and of course what a ship saves in its cruise is so much saved to the commercial interests on the town. For in stance: Every vessel coming into the Sound has to stop first at the port of entry Port Townsend. Suppose the wind is fair. A ves sel comes in under full sail and stops there. "When ready to sail again the conditions may be changed and a tug has to be called to take her to the port of destina tion. It is annoying and could be avoided. There is cousiderable money in the towing business of the Sound, and Spreckels, of San Francisco, talks of sending one of his large tugs here tho Relief to pick up some of the shipown ers' dollars Corr.
