TnE members of the legislature of
Minnesota have unanimously voted
to return the passes sent them by the
various railroad companies. There
are other legislatures in session the
members of which ought to follow
their example.
A new British Columbia road is the
Vancouver fc Fraser Valley. It is
projected to run from Nooksaek,
W. T., northwest into British Colum
bia, passing through Langburg, Sur
rey, the Delta and Richmond, and
crossing tho Frazer river a short dis
tance below Ladnor's landing.
The Seattle, Lake Sbore and East
ern road is now built sixty miles east
from Seattle and forty miles west from
Spokane Falls. A stop ha3 been
made for more funds. It is oxpected
that with tho backing of tho O. B. &N.
Co., the Seattle road will bo enabled
to go ahead and complete a transconti
nental line through some pass of the
Cascade mountains.
The Edmunds resolution differs
from tho Monroe declaration of 1823
to tho extent of being more positive
and aggressive. In the former in
stance there was merely a sort of gen
eral protest against possible Euro
pean interference with any American
nationality, whereas in the present
case a certain contemplated proceed
ing is objected to in a form which
implies a purpose of direct resistanoe,
if such a stop shall become necessary,
to prevent tho consummation of the
scheme.
