A committoo of prominent manu facturers leave hero to-day for In dianapolis, to present an address to general Harrison, setting forth that the political parties m tbo south can now divide on the prac tical issues, and tbat the signers are pleased with the triumphs of protection. They ask Harrison to recognize the best element of 'the Republican party in making ap pointments in the south. It has been .signed by about fifty promi nent manufacturers and business, men, most of them Democrats. San Feancisco, Dec. 17. At a meeting to-day of the Republican state central committee and a number of candidates who believe they were countedout in the recent city election, it was decided to contest some seats for the legisla ture and board of supervisors. It was not decided what candidates will contest their defeat, but it ia thought there will be at least sev en recounts. It is reported that papers are being prepared for a recount in the fifth congressional district, where the returns show that Clunie (Democrat) was elected bv 14 votes. The statement is already going about that the German emperor's latest baby has inherited his fath er's disease.
