Marr, which is ont nearly six months and probably getting short of supplies for the crew. A heavy fog hung over the river all yesterday forenoon. It was eo thick further up that the Clara Parker, with the schooner J. C. North in tow, lay at anchor several hours at Brookfield. We of Astoria think it rains pretty fast here sometimes, especially when the biggest part of a rainfall of two inches comes in one afternoon; hot here comes a report from Valparaiso of a rain storm in which thirty-six inches of ram water fell. The Clan McKenzie is at Sand island. 'The Zampa is at Tanzy point, loaded with lumber from the West Shore mills. The J. O. The board of city trustees, of Pcta luma, CaL, have passed an ordinance relative to street parades and the ob struction of streets and sidewalks. It is aimed at the salvation army pa rades, which have been a cause of so much disturbance in that city. The Salvationists say thoy will apply at once for a permit, and if refused will parade as usual, and that they will fill the jails before they turn back from their work. It is one thing to pass ordinances and another to en force them. We have a few ordi nances in Astoria of the nature of those referred to, but they seem to have fallen into "inoc well, they don't seem to do any good. How Men Die. If we know all the methods of ap proach adopted by an enemy we are the better enabled to ward off the danger and pospone the moment when surrender becomes inevitable. In many instances the inherent strength of the body suffices to enable it to op pose the tendency toward death. Many however have lost these forces to such an extent that there is little or no help. In other cases a little aid to the weakened Lungs will make all the difference between sudden death and many years of useful life. Upon the first symptoms of a Cough, Cold or any trouble of the Throat or Luugs, give that old and wellknown remedy Boschee's German Syrup, a careful trial. It will prove what thousands say of it to be, the "bene factor of any home." A Wide Difference. Esther Holladay, widow of the late Ben Holladay, instituted proceedings in Multnomah connty conrt, to com pel her brother-in-law, Joseph Holla day, executor of the estate of his brother Ben, to show cause why he should not pay her about S3.000 ar rears due her on the monthly allow ance allowed her by the court out of the estate. In her sworn complaint she asserts that her husband, Ben Holladay, died possessed of an estate worth 31,500,000. In his sworn an swer to the demand of the widow, Joseph Holladay, denies that Ben Holladay died possessed of an estate worth $1,500,000, or any other sum; that while it is true that he was the owner of a large amount of property he was neither possessed nor entitled to the possession of it; that the whole of it was at the time of his death, and for a long time prior thereto, encum bered, and m the possession and con trol of other parties, and nt the time of his death ho did not have means with which to pay the expenses of his last sickneps and funeral. Ladies in delicate health, and all who suiter from habitual constipation, will find the pleasant Californi.i liquid fruit remedy, Syrup of Fiss, more pasily taken and more beneficial in effect than vn y other remedy. It acts promptly yet gently on the bowels, kidnejs, liver and stomach, and does not sicken or debili tate. For sale by all druggists. Fuller'8 Insanity. Archbishop Gross returned on Wednesday from Victoria, where he participated in the obsequies of the late archbishop Seghers. The remains lay in state on the U. S. gunboat The tis on the way down. The remains were conveyed to the shore in a small boat While this was being done all the vessels in the harbor dropped their flags, out of respect to the de parted. The funeral ceremonies were most elaborate and imposing. The sermon was preached by bishop Bron del, and the remains were placed in the vault at St. Mary's Cathedral, it was learned that Frank Fuller's bul let struck above the heart and severed the main artery of that organ. Arch bishop Gross has a copy of archbish op Seghers' diary kept up to within fonr days of his death. Iu this is mentioned in several places .the fact that Fuller had on divers occasions shown marked signs of insanity. This was manifested by incoher ent, rambling remarks and queer actions.
