Attempted Kidnaping.
Last Tuesday while a ten-year-old
grandson of J. D. "Wilson, who
was staying with Mr. Estis in
Pleasant valley, about twelve
miles east of Baker City, was picking-
up potatoes not more than 100
yards from the house, two tramps
came, along and asked the boy for
something to cat. He responded
that the folks were away from
home and that there was nothing
cooked up in the house. There
upon tho tramps grabbed bold of
tne boy and told him tbat tbey
would take him along and make a
bootblack "out of him, and pulled
him along with them on therailroad
track. "Whentbey reached Bore
man's ranch, three miles frorh this
city, the boy saw Mn Estis' folks
coming in a wagon and called out
to tnem, but they did not see nor
hear him. The tramps stuffed cot
ton into the boy's mouth and told
him if'he dared to yell again they
would kill him. This silenced the
boy from fear. When they ar
rived in town they chanced to
loosen their hold on the boy, who
iook aavantage ot tne opportunity
and ran away to his aunt's, Mrs.
Merwins, all but scared to death.

A Life on the Ocean Wave
Indurates the stomach against sea sickness,
but a single or occasional transit across the
"Illimitable wetness" Is productive of griev
ous qualms, especially when it is stormy.
Ocean travelers, yatchmen, ship surgeons,
commercial buyers sent abroad, voyagers
by steamboat, and all who are occasionally
orf requently called upon to be where "bil
lows are buffeted." should take along Hos
teller's Stomach Bitters, the finest known
antidote for sea sickness, malaria, bil
iousness, and disorders ot the stomach and
bowels. Many travelers by railroad with
delicate stomachs and nerves, likewise suf
fer severely en route. These will find the
Bitters surely helnful and consolatory.
Traveling, even in swift, steady and com
