Ayer's Hair Vigor keeps the hair soft and pliant, imparts to it the lustre and freshness of youth, causes it to grow luxuriantly, eradicates Dandruff, cures all scalp diseases, and is the most clean ly of all hair preparations. AVPR'Q Hak Vigor has given me nii.ii j perfect satisfaction. I was nearly bald for six years, during which time I used many hair preparations, hut without success. Indeed, what little hair I had was growing thinner, until I tried Ayer's Hair Vigor. I used two bottles of the Vigor, and my head is now well covered with a new growth of hair. Judson B. Chapel, Peabody, Mass. HAIR t'iat nas become weak, gray. inui ana faded, may have new life and color restored to it by the use of Ayer's Hair Vigor. My hair was thin, faded, and dry, and fell out in large quantities. Ayer's Hair Vigor stopped the falling, and restored my hair to its original color. As a dressing for the hair, this preparation has no equal. Mary N. Hammond, Stillwater, Minn. VlfiflR youth, and beauty, in the v lUUlIj appearance of the hair, may be preserved for an indefinite period by the uso of Ayer's Hair Vigor. A dis ease of the scaln caused mv hair to bo. come harsh and dry, and to fall out freely. Nothing I tried seemed to do me any good until I commenced using Ayer's Hair Vigor. Three bottles of this preparation restored my hair to a healthy condition, and it is now soft and pliant. My scalp is cured, and it is also free from dandruff. Mrs. E. R. Foss, Milwaukee, wis. A city missionary gives his con versation with one of these out eut casts: "Well, my boy, what do you want? ' "A home, please sir." What is your name?" "Hain't got no name, sir; the boys call me Pickety." "Well, Picketv, where do vou live." " ' "Don't live nowhere, sir." "But where do you stay?" "I don't stay nowheres in the day-time, but I sleep in hay bar ges, sir, and sometimes in dry goods boxes, and down on the steam gratings in winter, till the M. P.'s came along, and just now a cove has taken mo in at the iron bridge at Harlem." "Iron bridge! What do you mean?" "Why, them holler iron things what holds the bridge up. He got it first, and ho lets me in." "Pickety, who is your father?" "Hain't got no father, sir; he died afore I knew, and me mither she drinked and bate me, and we was put out by the landlord, and she died and the city hall buried her!" And something like a shadow came over the cunning blue eyes. "Pickety, did you ever hear of Uod?" "Yes, sir; I have heard the fel lers swear about him, and I know it's lucky to say something to him when you sleep out in bad nights." Uid you ever go to school, Pickety, or to church?" "No, sir; I never went to no church nor school. I should kind o'like to learn somethin'." My hearers, these unfortunates are all about us. When they got up from their hands and knees to walk their first step-was on the road to' ruin, and every day since they have been plunging down to lower depths, and wilder despair, and deeper darkness. There are many about us in boy hood and girlhood in comfortable circles that are going to be some thing very good or very bad, very bright or very ignorant, and thoy will yet make their parents glmi with an infinite gladness or p-iin them with infinite sorrow. They go bounding through the hall; they shout in the yard; the' sing in the school. This activity that now strikes tho ball, and runs the race, and rolls the hoop, and flies the kite, will soon be ready for the higher game of life, where for tunes are to be made, and reputa tions achieved, and temptations combatted, and kingdoms of glory won. Call up that child; push back his hair. Shall this face be ever brightening up with benevolence, or scarred, and pinched, and blast ed with excesses? Shall those eyes become more and more intel ligent, or shall they acquire the the dishonest glance and the ser vile down cast? Put your hand on that child's heart. Shall it al ways beat with noble impulses, or will it be a thief's heart, a coward's heart, a traitor's heart? Tal mage's Sermon. Modern fortifications seem likely to be great mushrooms of concrete or of steel casting. Breaking Timber Land. During the past fifteen years I have helped to clear off and break nearly one hundred acres of heavi ly timbered land. I have sown the land down in timothy, red clo ver, blue grass, and orchard grass, and pastured it for four or five years before breaking it. I keep the sprouts down, and by the time mentioned the roots have mostly rotted and many of the stumps can be pulled out with tho plow. When the ground is to be plowed at once, -the work is more difficult and cannot be too well done. Everv root in the wav of the nlow should be taken out and all the smaller stumps. I do none of this work until I put the plow in the ground. A strong plow and a steady team are essential. I do not grub any until I begin plow ing, because I can plow close up to the small stump and by cutting from that side can so loosen it that the plow will take it out; this saves moving the dirt with a mat tock. The most troublesome stumps are those sending out many side roots. Those having heart roots can be closely reached with a plow, and if the heart root is cut a little below the level of the fur row the stump is easily pulled out and bothers no more. When I have plowed the land none but the larger stumps are left, and there are no roots projecting beyond the .'- . . . . stumps. The stumps and roots are hauled off. the former to close hollows, the latter for fuel. A team used in breaking such ground soon becomes accustomed to the work, and will 'go cautiously as they approach a stump. Ex. A Hint to Puny People.
