I SCROFULA I do not believe that Ayer's Sarsaparilla has an equal as a cure for Scrofulous Hu mors. It is pleasant to take, gives strength to tho body, and pro duces a more perma nent result than any medicine I ever used. E. Haines, North Lindale, Ohio. I have used Ayer'a Sarsaparilla, in my family, for Scrofula, and know, if it is taken faithfully it -will thoroughly eradicate this terrible disease. "W. F. Fowler, M. D., Greenville, Tenn. For forty years I have suffered with Erysipelas. I have tried various remedies for my complaint, but found no relief until I commenced using Ayer's Sarsnparilla. After taking ten bot tles of this inedicino I am completely cured. M. C. Amesbury, Rockport, Me. I have suffered, for years, from Catarrh, which was so sevcro that it destroyed my appetite and weak ened my system. After trying other remedies, without re lief, I began to take Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and, in a few months, was cured. Susan L. Cook, 'JOU Albany St., Boston, Mass. Ayer's Sarsaparilla is superior to an blood purifier that I ever tried. I havo taken it for Scrofula, Canker, and Salt Rheum, and recehed much benefit from it. It i3 good, also, for a weak stomach. D. L. BECK & SONS. Asm Iron f oris SALMON ITEMS. The fishermen had a large meet ing at Mirshfield on Saturday, and remained firm in their demand for prices heretotore fixed upon. Coast Mail, 6. On Wednesday night a large number of the fishermen drew out from the union and took boats for fishing from the cannery at Em pire. They claim that the salters in the union were keeping them out of work and that injustice was being done them. At all events the boats were manned and the cannery will run. Coast Mail., 6. The fishermen of the Coquille hare bought the Mount Hood Packing company property and will run the business of canning and salting salmon under the name of the Union Packing company. Kobert Y . rsuHard is president of the Union, J. D. McFarland sec retary, and Edward Fahy, Jr., treasurer. J. R. Gilstrap will have general supervision of the busi ness. The Union commenced fish ing in earnest on Monday. It is intended to establish a store on the co-operative plan near tho can nery. Coast Mail, 6. The misunderstanding existing between the cannerymen and fish ermen on the river and harbor remains yet unsettled. A joint meeting was held Monday night, but no action was taken both factions remaining firm. The fish ermen have given notice that un less their demands are acceded to they will raise the price five cents more per fish all around. Mr. Sol omon informs us that he is canning salmon every day from his own catch, and that up to the present time he has canned more fish than be did un to the same date last year. Ghehalis Viclette, 7. "Wissahickon" in the Philadel phia Grocery Werldssiys: There is arriving this week salmon-from the far away rivers of Alaska. 'Tis coming in in fine condition and of delicious quality. The salmon of the Columbia river has hitherto held the front rank in the markets of the world, nay to speak the words of truth and soberness, it still holds it, but its hold is not so sure as it has been. The salm on of Alaska bogins to dispute its title, and with many reasons on its side. The salmon is a cold water fish, it flourishes only in cold water, but it must not be too cold. The conditions in Alaska are very favorable to it. The riv ers near its coasts are very nearly of the same temperature of the "Foyle," the "Bann," and the "Erne," those Irish rivers so fa mous for the excellence of their salmon, and these salmon are very much alike. Dyspepsia and indigestion are killing more people than rum, ten times over. When a man has dyspepsia his stomach is always with him and lie is always conscious of it. lie can't sleep, his food doesn't taste right, he's morbid. Your stomach ought to he jour best friend, and it will be if after eatinc vou will take a little Simmons Liver Regulator to assist digestion and allay all Irrita tion. "After eating a hearty supper, if 1 take about a teaspoonful of Simmons Liver Regulator, I never feel the effects of the supper eaten."' Ovid G. Si'auks, ex-Maj or of Macon, Ga. Not a particle of quinine nor any mineral substance is contained in Ayer's Ague Cure yet it is a warranted specihe for malaria. Words generally express them selves. But do they pay charges? Kentucky State Journal. For scrofulous disorders, and mercurial diseases, the best reme dy is Ayer's Sarsaparilla. The first year of the twentieth century will begin at midnight, on January 3, 1901. AS EXCELLENT SUGGESTION. Sept. 9, 1SS8. Editor Asteeian: In a late issue o your paper you allude to the propriety of Clatsop county being represented at the commg session of the state fair which is opportune and should be heeded. I send you samples of apples, plums, prunes and Bartlett pears, grown by Mr. Stone at Knappa, this year. While no particular at tention has been paid to the growth and treatment of fruit about the mouth of the Columbia river, these samples, together with what has been seen elsewhere in the county, settles the question that good fruit in abundance may be grown, not only in Clatsop county but on both sides of the river. Particular attention should be given to the production of fruits and berries here. There is not as good a market in Oregon as Astoria for such, and the demand is increasing every year. With the building of the seaside roads and the increase of popula tion along the Willamette and Columbia rivers the summer dwell ers along the coast from Tillamook head to Shoalwater bay will great ly increase and make a large de mand for the earlier fruits and berries. Again for canning pur poses we are prepared; canneries already built and operated, so that the fruit growers would not have to wait for capital to come in to put up the surplus productions nor furnish a bonus for tho estab lishment of canneries, as the peo ple in sections of the upper coun ties are asked to do. We would suggest that neighborhoods like Knappa, Clatsop plains, Olney, Westport and others, send to the state fair at Salem a few packages 01 fruit, berries, cheese, butter. vegetables, grasses, that the bal ance of the state may know that there is a Clatsop county and that its industries and resources arc not limited to fish.
