23th. I8S8, said warrant bearing date
the 23th day of July, 1888, commanding

and recorded by J. M. Shivcly, to col
lect an assessment of two hundred and
fifty and 23-100 dollars, which assess
ment was made for the improvement of
West nth street, between Water street
and ISerry street, by Ordinance No.
1045, entitled an Ordinance declaring
the probable cost of improving West
9th street, irom the South side of Water
street to the South side of Berry street,
approved Juno 29th, 1888,1 have this

sessment made by Ordinance No. 1,031
of the City of Astoria, Clatsop county,
Oregon, and which ordinance passed
the Common Council on the 14th day of
August, 18S8 and was approved on the
15th day of August 1888, for the im
provement of West Sixth street in the
city of Astoria as laid out and recorded
by J. M. Shively. from the north side of
Water street to the south side of Wall
street, in the manner provided by Ordi
nance No. 1,0H of said city, and which
ordinance passed the Common Council
on the 28th day of June, 1883. and was
approved on the 29th day of June, 1888,

Anchovies are so plentiful at
Trebizond that they are sold for
27 cents a hundred weight for food
for paupers and for fertilizing
purposes, and during the first part
of the season each year so many
are thrown away that the whole
city is pervaded with the smell of
their rottenness. Porpoises ate
also very plentiful, about 40,000
hundred weight a year being
caught, according to the British
