C2j $ltc Sa gstoriau. ASTOKIA. OREGON: TUESDAY. .-AUC.UST2S.1S8S. Ioiv.v is a proliibition state. Du buque is one of its principal cities. There are forty-seven saloons in Du buque. Scnooi. lands which sell for 81-25 an acre are being snapped up in Clat sop and Columbia counties. This class of land is rapidly becoming scarce, and will soon be non e.l. The Cceur d'Alene Indians have agreed to leave to the Indian Bureau the question of the O. E. & N. Tnn Chinese are getting mad enough with the British colonies in Australia to talk fight The exclu sion of the Chinese from the Austral ian ports is the cause of this war talk at Peking. It is less than fifty years ago that Great Britain was bombard iug Chinese cities in order to force open the ports of the great Asiatic empire to trade trade in opium, too, at that Now it is China that thinks of fighting in order to open British ports to immigration. Ataxia Canned Salmon. Tho barkentino Quicliste) arrived yesterday with a largo quantity of canned salmon. This is the fourth arrival with Alaska salmon this sea son as follews: Arrived. Vessel. Cases. .TnlrlS Orion 4.813 July 27 Bertha 9,000 Aug. a Gen. Ord a,C50 Aug.23 Quickstep 18,000 Total 31,903 From this time on the arrivals will become moro frequent Usually tho bulk of the catch arrives here in Oc tober. The steamer Bertha left for Alaska on the 2d instant, and is ex pected back some time next month. It is thought she will bring down a full cargo. Moat of these consign ments were sold before arrival and this is the case with those to arrive in the next two months. Little is known of the probable pack from Alaskan waters this season. The quantity has been estimated at 300, 000 cases. Tho receipts of Alaska canned salmon for the past five years have been as follews: In 1883.es 30,000 In 1881 45,000 lnl835 74,800 Inl88C 120,700 Inl887 100,200 In 1833 to August 24 at,9C3 Several new canneries were put in operation this year, and the instruc tions to all were to pack all that conld bo secured. But tho loss of one vessel with supplies for one of the canneries and tho destruction by fire of another caunery will cut down the expectations somewhat. &'. F. Jiu!lttin,2t. An Explanation. What is this "nervous trouble" with which so many seem now to be af flicted? If you will remember a few years ago tho word Malaria was com parativoly unknown, to-day it is :ia common as any word in the English language, yet this word covers only the meaning of another word used by onr forefathers in times past So it is with nervous diseases, as they aud Malaria are intended to cover what our grandfathers called Billiousuess, and all are caused by troubles that ariso from a diseased condition of the Liver which in performing its func tions finding it cannot dispose of the bile through tho ordinary channel is compelled to pass it off through the system, cansiug nervous troubles, Malaria, Billions Fever, etc. You who are suffering can well appreciate a cure. AVe recommend Green's Au gust Flower. Its cures are mar velous. It Paid $37,500 In Helil. As an incident in business and to show how a little money well circulated helps to make times lively, wo men tion tho follewing: Some weeks ago a prominent real estate dealer in Los Angeles handed a gentleman a check for 82,500 in a deal. Tho recipient of it having some littlo obligations outstanding as the resnlt of too much boom, quietly endorsed it, and handed it to a creditor, and thus it started on its mission of charity, love and busi ness. Induecourseof time it turned up in tho hands of tho original draw er of it, with no less than fifteen in dorsements on the back. It had paid 337,500 of debts, made fifteen men happy, and returned to its draw er. That's tho way to do business. Let those who can pay up their littlo obligations, and all act equally hon est and just with their creditors, and no one will ever have reason to com plain of jull times or a scarcity of money. There are millions of money in tho country if the people who have it will only put it in circulation and not board it like misers. Sunta Ana Standard. For First Place. Solomon's cannery began opera tions yesterday. The first lot of 1G0 fish were caught Tuesday night Fish are running lively in the river. Tho price paid for them averages from 35 cents to GO cents each. Cite ltalis Vidette, 21. Tho fishermen and the canneries on Coquille havo failed to come to a satisfactory agreement and the for mer have sent for salt and intend to dispose of the catch themselves. Coast Mail, 23. French, the man who counted fish at Hume's cannerv last season, fell from Pegert's pile driver a distance of thirty feet on Saturday. He was alive at last accounts but Dr. Spon ogle.the attending physicians, says he will have a close call. The doctor removed several pieces of bone from his hip. which is badly crushed. Coquille Herald. The barkentino Quickstep) arrived yesterday afternoon, nineteen days from Kodiak, Alaska, with 18,000 cases salmon for the Karluk Packing company. Captain Jacobsen said that he brought down no news from the north and had no report to make. S. F. Call, 21. Although salmon have been run ning for the past two weeks, canning operations have not yet been com menced on the bay this season. The price set by the fishermen's union, 40 and CO cents, is said by the canners to be more than they can afford to pay, and consequently the few boats at present fishing are salting their catch. Cooi Bay News, 22. The following is given as the Frazer river pack up to the 13th inst: Phoenix, 1,200 cases; British American, 4,000; Wadhams. 2.400; Wellington, 2,400; Harlock. 2,000; Delta, 2,200; Findlay, D & U., 1,300; Ewing, 4,500; Kichniond, 5.000; Laid law, 2,000; Bon Accord, 3,000; British Columbia, 1.CG0.
