There is a heap of iun and lots of joy cruising over a timber claim, with a big bundle strapped to your back, hunting for section lines, section corners, quarter posts and blazes, climbing and descend ing steep and timbered hills, cross ing the gurgling creeks, and getting stuck in muddy swamps, forcing your way through" thorny briars and brushy brambles, snag ging shoes and tearing clothes, and grasping devils' clubs until your hand feels as though it had been stuck in a hornet's nest, and tumb ling over snags and logs and brush until you feel as though you had been through a sausage machine, and then at last when night comes, to end for a time your business and your toil, you think with that pack on your back, lay out a camp, eat your rustic meal and rest under the falling rains of heaven, with out shelter, tired and hungry, you snooze the snooze of a land hunter, and dream of corner posts, and devil's clubs, and compasses, and mud and rain and timber, etc. Yes, there is lots of fun going over the timber claims of this coun try, you bet. Aberdeen Herald. Lots of Enterprise "This copy of our paper,n writes a Dakota editor, "is not issued from Script city, our new county seat, as we hoped it would be, but about four miles from here, near Hank Potter's place. This is owing to the fact that in moving our office on the wagon, where we have had it -for the last two years so that we might keep it as near the county seat as possible, one of our horses became frightened at the noise of the job press as we were running off some posters, reared up, and fell and broke his neck, thus compelling us to stop in the road. We expect to remain where we are till next week, when the boys from Jumping valley move the county seat back, when we shall hitch our wagon to the back end of the court house and be towed along to civilization. Before the Script city boys come after the county capital, week after next we shall have secured a new horse and propose to keep right up to tho procession after this. Remember to subscribe for ttic only county seat paper in the county the wheels were off our esteemed but sleepy contempo rary's wagon six months ago, and it has since been side tracked at Chicago city." We have all heard of hunters treeing panthers and "holeing" foxes, but the latest in southern Oregon is 'freeing.-deer. R. K. Sutton reports that squire Parker of tho station, on Linkville 'road, came in from a hunt the other day after raes and help, stating that he had treed a big buck and wanted to cut him out. He had shot the buclr, when, to his surprise, it'took shelter inside of an immense fir log, which had been burned inside until there was nothing left of it but a shell. When the squire came up to the open end of the log, the 'wdunded buck made a charge toward him, but ran back into the dark shadow before he could shoot, and then persistently refused to come out and be killed. Two men with axes succeeded in cut ting a hole in the tree so that they could kill the buclc, and he proved to be one of the largest ever killed out there. This may sound like a good sized yarn to some of our readers, but it is 'true. It must.be remembered that fir trees grow big in Oregon. E. P. Vindicator.
