Common Council of the City of Asfbria,
Clatsop county, Oregon, propose to order
the improvement of that portion ot Ce
dar street in the City of Astoria, Clatsop
county, Oregon, as laid out and recorded
bv .1. M. Shivcly, from the east side of
West-Sixth street to the east side of
Salmon street, by replauking said por
tion of said street to a width of sixteen
feet through the center thereof with
new and sound fir plank four inches in
thickness; said improvement to be made
to the established grade of said street,
and unless a remonstrance, signed by
the owners of two-thirds of the property
fronting on said portion of said street

gladden the winters of Paris, has
created a-terrible shock among the
circles so lately embellished by
her; presence. The unhappy lady
left Paris but a short time ago on
a summer tour to Germany.
While stepping from the door of
her hotel at Berlin to gain her
carriage, she let fall one of her
bracelets close to the pavement.
Stooping to pick it up she ob
served laughingly that "one of the
horses belonging, to the next car
riage had kissed her." The next
day ths unfortunate young lady
was taken ill with that most' horri
ble disease, glanders, and in a few
more days breathed her last, in
spite of the attendance of the first
physicians of Berlin and every re
source to be .obtained by wealth
or by the ceaseless vigilance of
