The confer ences ot the rivor and harbor bill agreed to-day "to the senate amend ments for rivers and harbors on the Pacific coast No increase allowed by the senate was reduced. Senator Dolph, who is a member of the com mittee in the senate, with the assist ance of senator Mitchell, secured in creases for Oregon and Washington territory. This river and harbor bill appropriates more for the improve ment of the water ways of the Pacific coast than any other bill ever pro posed. The Pacifio coast representa tives have made a determined fight for sufficient appropriations to carry on the works begun there, and have been snecessful in every particular. Oregon has been especially fortu nate, receiving considerably over a million dollars for rivers and harbors in that state. There does not appear to be aoy substantial basis for the report that the president purposes ve toing the river and harbor bilL The amount originally appropriated by the house was a trifle less than 20,000-, 000. In the senate that amount has been so increased as io make the sum total about 21,500,000. The presi dent was satisfied with the bill as it left the house, and the members of the committee do not believe he will veto it, simply because the senate has chosen to add 81,500,000. It is ex pected to reach the president before the close ot the present week. . A Warning The modes ot death's approach are various, and statistics show conclu sively that more persons die from dis eases of the Throat and Lungs than any other. It is probable that every one, without exception, receives vast numbers of Tubercle Germs into the system and where these germs fall upon suitable soil they start into life and develop, at first slowly and is shown by a slight tickling sensation in the throat and it allowed to con tinue their ravages they extend, to the lungs producing Consumption and to the head, causing Catarrh. Now all this is dangerous and if allowed to proceed will in time cause death. At the onset you must act with prompt ness; allowing a cold to go without your attention is dangerous and may lose you your life. As soon as you feel that something is wrong with your Throat, Lungs or Nostrils, ob tain a bottle of Boschee's German Syrup. It will give you immediate relief. Clinirman Sarin and President Cleveland. Senator Mitchell took chairman Louis T. Barin, of Oregon City, chairman ot the Republican state central committee, with him to call on president Cleveland while Mr. Barin was in Washington recently, and it is said that the introduction and response were as follews: Senator Mitchell: "Mr. President, let me introduce to you Hon. In the matter of paying premiums he is outdone by Mr. Stetson, who pays S85.000 in tho same length of time, but the differ ence is accounted for by the fact that beside paying the premiums on the risks, on his own life, he also pays those on the lives of his bus iness manager and his son-in-law, both of whom he has insured for 100,000 each, beside holding policies for large amounts on other people's lives.
