The First Sign
Of failing health, whether in the form oi
Night Sweats and Nervousness, or in a
sense of General 'Weariness and Loss oi
Appetite, should suggest tho use oi
Ayer'3 Sarsaparilla. This preparation
is most effective for giving tone and
strength to tho enfeebled system, pro
moting tho digestion and assimilation of
food, restoring tha nervous forces to
their normal condition, and for purify
ing, enriching, and vitalizing tho blood.
Failing Health.
Ten years ago my health began to fail.
I was troubled with a distressing Cough,
Night Sweats, 'Weakness, and Nervous
ness. I tried various remedies pre
scribed by different physicians, but
became so weak that I could not go up
stairs without stopping to rest. My
friends recommended mo to try Ayer's
Sarsaparilla, which I did, and 1 am now
as healthy and strong as ever. Mrs.
E. L. "Villiam3, Alexandria, Minn.
I havo used Ayer's Sarsaparilla, in. my
family, for Scrofula, and know, if it is
taken faithfully, that it will thoroughly
eradicate this terrible disease. I havo
also prescribed it as a tonic, as well as an
alterative, and must say that I honestly
believe it to be the best blood medirino
evercompounded. W. F. Fowler, M. D.,
D. D. S., Greenville, Tenn.
Dyspepsia Cured.
It would bo impossible for mo to de
scribe what I suffered from Indigestion
aud Headache up to the timo I began
taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla. I was under
tho caro of various physicians, and tried
a great many kinds of medicines, but
never obtained moro than temporary re
lief. After taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla
for a short time, my headache disap-
S eared, and my stomach performed its
utie3 more perfectly. To-day my
health is completely restored. Mary
Harley, Springtield, Mass.
I havo been greatly benefited by the
prompt use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. It
tones and Invigorates the system, regu
lates tho action of tho digestive aud
assimilative organs, and vitalizes the
blood. It is, without doubt, the most
reliablo blood purifier yet discovered.

It is reported that crude opium

A correspondent of the Loudon

of the rich land owners.
Paul Witte, a ten-vear-old New

effects of a dose of "Rough on

A Florida man objects to the

Under our present administration

that trouble him.
There is a man in. New York

says he expects to live ten years
longer, during which time he ex
pects to see his theories realized,

the holding of public office by celi

Philadelphia teamsters complain
that since the reduction in (lie
number of saloons in that cit-, the
question of watering their horses
;s a serious one, as neatly all the
watering-troughs in the city were
set up in front of saloons and have
been removed, so that their horses
are beginning to suffer for want of
some means of providing them
with drink dtfring the day.
In the month of April last two
German travelers, Lenk and Topf,
undertook the ascent of the volcano
of Iztaccihuatl, the neighbor of
Popocatepetl, in Mexico, whose
summit reaches an elevation of
17,000 feet. They failed to reach
the very top, but the expedition
fully rewarded their efforts, as they
repoit the existence of a glacier.
It has not been supposed hitherto
that there were anj' glaciers in this
part of the American continent.
On opening xa package at the
dead letter office, in Washington,
this week, it was found to contain
this scalp of a while woman
stretched out on a bent willow
frame, and from the marks on the
package the conclusion was
reached that the scalp was a trophy
of some Indian warrior. The hair
was long and dark, and the scalp
had been removed hastily, judging
from the j-tgged edge. An effort
will lie made to find the owner of
the "relic."
Rather curiously, the scholar
ships which havo been awarded to
ivomen students at Cornell this
year, and the women have carried
off just one half ot these distinc
tions, were given as prizes for the
best records in mathematics, archi
tecture and botany, in two ofjwhich
branches at least the masculine
mind had b'ecn held to be invinci
ble. The examinations were im
partial, and the papers of the fair
competitors are pronounced among
the best that have ever been sub
mitted. A curious disease is manifesting
itself among the Iowa farmers'
nursery stock of apples, plums,
rose and other plants. The dis
ease shows itself in the formation
of excrescences on the roots which
arc popularly 'called "cancels."
The origin of the trouble is ob
scure, but the opinion of scientists
who have examined diseased roots
is that there is no good reason for
attributing the trouble to insects,
and, if the cause is a fungus, it
comes rather from the soil than di
rectly from a diseased plant to the
healthy one.
According to a railroad man, the
fast trains are doing great harm to
engineers. Almost daily, he says,
one of these knights of the lever

The rapid time made puts every

only a question of a few months
until the nervous system collapses.
