H. ROFULA I do not believe that Ayer's Sarsaparilla has an equal as a cure for Scrofulous Hu mors. It is pleasant to take, gives strength to the body, and pro duces a more perma nent result than any medicine I ever used. E. Haines, North Lindale, Ohio. I have used Ayer's Sarsaparilla, in my family, for Scrofula, and know, if it is taken faithfully it -will thoroughly eradicate this terrible disease. W.F.Fowler.lLD., Greenville, Tenn. For forty years I have suffered with Erysipelas. I havo tried various remedies for my complaint, but found no relief until I commenced using Ayer'3 Sarsaparilla. After taking ten bot tles of this medicine I am completely cured. M. 0. Amesbury, Rockport, Me. I have suffered, for years, from Catarrh, which was so severe that it destroyed my appetite and weak ened my system. After trying other remedies, without re lief, I began to take Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and, in a few months, was cured. Susan L. Cook, 909 Albany st., Boston, Mass. Ayer's Sarsaparilla is superior to any blood purifier that I over tried. I liavo taken it for Scrofula, Canker, and Salt Rheum, and recoivo.l much benefit from it. It is good, also, for a weak stomach. Millio Jano l'eircs, S. JorrxsoN & Co., 1099 Main St., Richmond, Va. Tr &I&, iaSi ti MM ates i i Between Life and Death. Washington, June 4. Gen. Sheridan is now lying weak, and exhausted, and in a comatose con dition. He has only rallied very feebly from the attack which nearly caused his de$th. The hem orrhage which preceded the attack of heart failure came from the lungs, but was not accompanied by coughing. The blood emitted was dark and thickly clotted. A recurrence of the heart failure fol lowed closely upon the hemor rhage. The pulse beat feebler and still more feeble, his breath ing grew exceedingly laborious, and the sick man's face assumed a bluish tint. His heart ceased to beat for a few seconds, and the anxious doctors bending over him thought all was over. Prior to this time, however, ex traordinary measures had been taken to prevent or lessen the at tack which they knew was coming, and his system, when it seemed that life was at an end, slowly and weakly responded to the treatment administered, and gradually a slight rally took place. A gal vanic battery was applied to his neck and back, and at last the pa tient was brought from the verge of the grave to consciousness again. He lay back, exhausted, and every one in the room re mained anxiously watching, and dreading a return ot the attack. It was the worst of all attacks, and gave way less readily to treatment. He is extremely weak, but at times his mind is clear, though intervals of consciousness are followed br others during which he appears to only slightly realize what is going on around him. He does not talk at all, and the doctors ever since his iungs became affected, have done all in their power to dissuade him from using his voice. "It JIakes lie Tired" To read all these advertisements of medicines upon medicines when they enumerate with such particularity and minuteness of detail, alt the diseases mankind, womankind, and even "baby kind,'' are heirto. llow cheap one feels to commence what she supposes to be a tragic or tender-love story, read until her sympathies arp so thoroughly aroused that she can scarcely sleep without knowing whether they were married or not, and then have" it end something like this: "Dr. Pierce's Fa vorite Pieseription is theonlv positive cure for all classesof "female weakin-."' such as prolapsus, inflammation, pei m.l ca! pains, ele. For sale bv all drug gists." Dr. Pierce's Pellets are Laatixior Cathartic according to si?e ot dose. "Boosting" a town should not he done by tho newspaper men, alone, but the citizens generally should take a hand in it. This is true and unless they do it the news papers might as well save their breath. It requires something besides talk to build towns and cities. The best directed and most energetic newspaper work will not accomplish much if the citizens lean back in their chairs and take it easy. Newspapers are always ready to help, and to work any where and in any way that is for the best interest of the com munity, but the effort fails of its purpose when thev do not have the co-operation of the business and property owning public. It is beyond question that Ayer's Cherry Pectoral heads the list of remedies for disease:-, of the throat and lungs. The Matnet gives the follow ing as an infallible preservative of eggs: Take a teacupful of salt, and lime the size of an egg, and pour boiling water on them. When cold, drain off the liquor and put it on the eggs. If too strong there will be a crust on top; if so add more water. This is for two gallons of liquor. There is no recipe that beats this, and it can be relied upon. Eggs put down in August and used in April are just as fresh and make just as nice frostings as newly laid ones. ine taint, oi scroiuia in your Diooa can De wholly eradicated by Ayer's Sarsaparilla. The new Inman steamship the City of New York, is warranted by her builders to be unsinkable. The Her ald to-day prints a ten column letter, written by Geo. C. Gorham, in which he undertakes to do jus tice to Roscoe Conkling, in the controversy with Blaine. Gorham says: Referring to the famous scene in the house of representatives in 1866, the records of the congress sional debates show that the whole affair was most discreditable to Blaine, and that he was rebuked and humiliated by the house, to which he had appealed, by a vote wanting only four to make it unani mous. Gorham quoted freely from the records to show that Conkling'was a victim of conspiracy, wherein Blaine, Garfield and Reid figured. Conkling was a silent martyr in intrigue and falsehood. He ac cuses the conspirators with hav ing used the president and state department to further their per sonal schemes, and punish stal wart republicans. Gorham's let ter is the fulfillment of a promise made to Conkling. a ' Melancholy ot Despondency. Commonly called the "blues," generally proceeds from a sluggish Liver. If senator Fry is accurate in his details of the offenses the Mollie Adams received at the hands of Canadian authorities it is difficult to see how the fishery treaty could have been negotiated without an apology from the British Domin ion for the conduct of tho Cana dian authorities. The Mollie Adams, according to senator Frye, put into a Canadian pore during a storm and when the gale had started she hoisted sail and started away. Captain Quigley of the cruiser Terror fired a shot across her bows, which brought her to, and she was ordered into port un der penalty of $400 fine if she did not return. The Mollie Adams went back to port, but had to pay the fine all the same. The senator proceeded to state how the captain of the Mol lie Adams hoisted the American flag and how the captain of the Terror ordered, it hauled down, and asked the senate if such things could go without a reckon ing in former days. It is not on record that the senate made an answer to this somewhat pregnant inquiry but it is probable that when the senate votes on the treaty the answer will be found in the re cord of the uvea and hops.
