Appetite, should suggest the use ol Ayer's Sarsaparilla. This preparation is most effective for giving tone and strength to tho enfeebled system, pro moting tho digestion and assimilation of food, restoring the nervous forces to their normal condition, and for purify ing, enriching, and vitalizing tho blood. Failing Health. Ten years ago my health began to fail. I wa3 troubled with a distressing Cough, Night Sweats, Weakness, and Nervous noss. I tried various remedies pre scribed by different physicians, out became so weak that I could not go up staira without stopping to rest. Jly friends recommended me to try Ayer's .Sarsaparilla, which I did, and 1 am now as healthy and strong as ever. Sirs. E. L. Williams, Alexandria, Minn. I have used Ayer's Sarsaparilla, in my family, for Scrofula, and know, if it is taken faithfully, that it will thoroughly eradicate this terrible disease. I have also prescribed it as a tonic, as well as an alterativo, and must say that I honestly believe it to be the best blood medicino evercompounded. W. F. Fowler, M. D., D. D. S., Greenville, Tenn. Dyspepsia Cured. It would bo impossible for mo to de scribe what I suffered from Indigestion and Headache np to the time I began taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla. I was under tho care of various physicians, and tried a great many kinds of medicines, but never obtained more than temporary re lief. After taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla for n short time, my headache disap- Seared, and my stomach performed its uties more perfectly. To-day my health Is completely restored. Mary Harley, Springfield, Mass. I liave been greatly benefited by the prompt nso of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. It tones and invigorates tho system, regu lates tho action of the digestive and assimilative organs, and vitalizes the blood. It is, without donbt, the most reliable blood purifier yet discovered. H. Its Page May Be Made a Source of Much Pleasure. A big book is the dictionary. The young people who during the past few weeks have been hunting out the words for the prize contest have had a good chance to find out that it is also an interesting one. How many of onr young people are there who have stopped to give a thought to the simplicity, yet vastucss of scope of our lan guage as exhibited in the diction ary's pages? Open your unabridged and let us for a moment look at this. Between the pages of this one book, many-leaved though it be, is found the complctejrealm of thought. Every idea that has pos sessed tho mind of man is hero ab stractly represented by the printed word or sign, and from just these words, strung over and over again into simple and stirring sentences, the master minds of the world have fcrmd the great mass of writ ings. There are upward ol 120, 000 words in the dictionary, and yet all these words are but varied combinations of only twenty-six. letters. Have you ever tried this game? No. Well, suppose then you get out yourdictionary and commence. Tbe gamo is well adapted for two persons, although a larger number may as readily play it, One of you open promiscuously at a page and commence reading on the words. It is the object of your opponent to spell correctly as many as possible, and also to de fine or to give his idea as to the meaning of the words. Keep on to the end of the page, and when finished let another page be select ed, and the test applied to you in the same manner. Whoever gets tho greatest number right is, of course, the victor. The only way to real'ze the sport of this game is to try it. You will be surprised at the number of words you do iiot know. Yon will bo astonished at the number you do know. You will meet with, probably on every page, words that vou never heard of. This is a fascinatinsj iratne, and one that will increase vour stock of knowledge. Try it. Did you ever go searching for the longest word m tho languau-i"? Set your friends to work at this and let. them bring you the result. Someone has said in answer to this question that the longest word in the language is "smiles," because there is a mile between tho first and last letters. This is witty, but not just to the purpose. The longest word the Eight O'clock man has been able to find is "dis proportionableness." This contains twenty-one letters. Who of tho Post-Dispatch readers can find one equally long? Another interesting thing of this kind is to find the largest words whoso letters will admit of a complete transposition into an other word. For instance the let ters comprising the word "peripa tetic" are identical witli those of "precipitate," while the letters of "enumeration are readily trans posed into "mountaineer." Can you find any similar elevpn-lettcr words? Desptto tho many patented po etic appliances of the present day, and in spite of all that is heard of the men who manufacture rhymes for poets, there are a number of words in our iancruacc to tret a good rhyme for which a writer is often hard pushed. There are some words to which there seem to bo no rhyming words. As an illustration, see if our readers can find a word to rhyme wilh the comparatively easy one, "silver." It has long been supposed that there is no rhymo to "month." A good authority says there is a rhyme to it not "onety onth," or any lisping versions of snch words as "once," "dunce," etc., but a legitimate word in every day sense. Let us see who can guess it.' The word "orange"is also men tioned as going begging for rhyme, while the dabbler in amatory verse ias ever felt the necessity for more words rhyming with "lore." The genial author of tho popu lar "Pinafore," who has been aptly mentioned as the "master of verbal contortion," has felt the restric tion of these limitations, and fur nishes some facts from his own ex perience. "Revenge" and "avenge have no rhymo but "Penge" and "Stonehonge;" "coif" has no rhyme at all. "Starve" has no rhyme except "carve." "Scalp" has no rhyme but "alp." "False" has no rhyme; "valse" is near it, but the French accept disqual ifies it; "waltz" is near it but the "t" spoils it. "Scarf" has no rhyme, as "laugh" and "half and "calf" certainly are not admis sible. "Babe" has no rhyme but "astrolabe," certain proper names excopted. "Gamboage" has no rhyme but "rouge." "Tube" would be rhymeless save for "cube" and "jujube." "Fugue" has no rhyme at all. "Gulf" rhymes with no English "word. We havo to fall back on "Cardinal Pandulph" and "Ulph," tho minstrel, "Azi muth," has only "doth." "Culm" and "cusp" have no English rhymes. It is Never Too Late. "Jly friends," said a man at an experience meeting in a Chicago suburb a few evenings ago, as he arose and looked around him with deep contrition, "I trust I havo begun a new life, and yet my con science impels me to make "a full confession before I ask you to ox tend tome the hand of fellowship. For fifteen years before I came among you I was a manufacturer of maple syrup " "My brother, there is hope for you!" exclaimed a man on tho seat in front, as he rose up and cordially grasped tho speaker's hand. "I sold real estate for five years in Los Angels." "Brethern," exclaimed the min ister, in a voice broken with emo tion, let us sing.
