She Is a Pavorite, but She Won't Stand Snubbing. Philadelphia Inquirer. A trim little woman skipped lightly from the steps of the Balti more and Ohio passenger coach at the Chestnut street station the other night. Walking ahead of her were senator Thomas V. Coop er and his wife, who came in the same car from Washington. There was something about the female that would attract a second glance as she hurried off in the neat-fitting, long plush coat, showing just the lower plaits of a stylish woolen traveling dress, and a jaunty bit of brown velvet bonnet bobbing with her head, as lively as the con venient grip sack rattled which she carried in her hand. "That's a traveling saleslady," remarked a train hand. "Yes, she's a regular female drummer. She travels on the road regularly and makes herself quite at home in the car. She's not over IS years old, though if you .heard her talk you'd think she was 20 or more. She's as bright as a dollar, and a very pleasant and ready talker. She lives in Pittsburg, travels for a millinery house and is very pop ular with her customers." In all her traveling alone be tween Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore und Washington she is said to have suffered no annoyance or insult. Though quite free to make and pick acquaintance with fellow passengers of her own sex, she carries herself with ladylike dignity, and yet her manner might seem a trifle familiar to strangers unacquainted with the fact that she virtually makes her home in the cars. It would be hard to tell just how many new comers on the line have had their journey short ened by the pleasure of her com pany. It is said that her bright and interesting chat has touched sparks of friendship in the bosom of many fair travelers whom she has met. Mrs. Senator Cooper and she parted great friends. An incident which shows her great composure occurred on her last trip south. After traveling some distance with a party homeward bound from California she seated herself beside one of the women BECK and opened up a conversation with some remark about the weather. "I don't think I know you, miss," exclaimed the woman, with a haughty air, and drawing herself away, as if from a thing unholy. "Excuse me, madam," said the young daughter of trade, jumping up like a flash, "I thought I was addressing a ladv' For liver and stomach troubles try Ayer's Pills. Of the practical jokes of the heir to the Persian throne many examples are given; many exam ples are also given of his energy and incorruptibility in a certain emergency. Last year, during the melon season, a soldier had picked a melon and devoured it without paying the peasant for it the stip ulated price, live shakke (3 cents). The peasant went to complain to Massoud Mirza, whose ear is always open, even to the lowest. After listening to his plaint, he said: "Well, you shall have justice. I will test this matter to the core. Bring in the soldier." The gor mandizing soldier was brought in. "Cut this man's belly open," he said to his executioner. "If there is a melon inside," he said to the peasant, "you will get your money; if not, off goes your head." The soldier's stomach was cut open, the melon found and the peasant paid. A mollah (priest) owned a fane property, consisting of a house and shady garden in Ispahan. The prince coveted it, and confis cated it finally. To all the demands of the mollah to restore the property, the prince invari iably answered, "Farda" (to-morrow). The mollah went to Tehe ran, obtained an audience with the shah, and told him what was the trouble. The shah gave the mollah a firman, running to this effect: "My dear son ! Give the mollah his property back, for he is a just and upright man with a kind heart." The mollah went back to Teheran and showed the letter to the zil-es sultan. "So you have a kind heart," he said, frowning. "Why did you not say so before? SONS. However, I'll have to convince myself of that." He clapped his hands. The executioner entered. "Cut this man's heart out," he said. "Do it tenderly, so it won't hurt him." The heart was cut out and brought to the prince on a salver. He viewed it critically, patted it with his hand, and then said: "So that is a kind heart. I'm glad I've seen one. Give the mollah back his heart and his property now! What, he's dead? Ah, well, then I suppose I must keep it after all. Put him in another house one where he'll stay." NEVER TRAVEL WITHOUT THEM. Persons should never travel with out a box of Braxdretix's Pills.
