Buying our goods direct from the manufacturers; and always paying cash for them, we not only get them at regular trade prices, as cheap as San Francisco or Portland dealers can buy, but we also get the cash discount; and if any other dealer thinks he can undersell us. he has only to start in, and we will agree that "the longest pole shall knock down the persimmons.71 We guarantee our patrons that for quality and quantity our prices shall be than any other house in town. Our sales of Christmas goods have been large, for which vre return thanks to our customers, but we still have a full and varied stock of as unique and beautiful goods as can be found in town, and as we have said relative to other goods, we will not be undersold. The expressions of admiration and satisfaction that have been made bjr those that have examined or bought from us have been gratifying and assure us that our efforts to please the Astoria public are ap preciated. We shall continue as in the past to try and merit the generous patronage bestowed upon us. Call and see our Dinner Sets, Tea Sets, Toilet Sets, in gi;eat variety, Crystal Ware of all kinds. Lamps, either hanging, stand, or hall in large stock, and in short", anything you want to buy. Remember also that we arc still in the grocery and provision trade and are ready to supply you with anything you want in those lines as cheap as the same quality of goods can be sold by any other dealer. So remember the place to buy is at T.USCsESS CAUDS. TOI5W a. SMITH. ATTORNEY AT LAW. Ofiicc, lloom 4 ami o. oter City KouKStme. rlTCO. The x'essel was found to be the Pacific Coast Stoiimship coin puny steamer oan v interne, une of her boats was seen approaching I and the occupants called for help. They were immediately placed in ! a bo.it from the Queen manned by sriond olfieer (Jl&eu, and proved to be first mate Charles Gren and four sailors. .Another boat, commanded by third officer Inraham, picked up Capt. Charles Lewis and second mate Charles S. Pratt. The cap tain and the second mate had con structed a raft and were about to launch it when they were rescued. The Sun Vincente had a crew of nineteen officers and inert, and the Queen qf the Pacific still hov ered around the vessel, all hands keeping an anxious lookout for those who had not been saved. Another man was picked up in an open boat in a few minutes, but died a short time after being taken to the Queen. His name is not known. So far as can be ascetained at present, the names of the lost are purser Everett, engineers John McCardie and Thomas Grenor, Cook Jackson, and John Grudy, Charles Graham, Alfred Clark, John "Wilcox, John Smith and three others, the last eight being seamen. None of the rescued officers or men can assign any cause for the origin of the fire. "When the fire was discovered the men became panic-stricken, and the officers could not control them. They jumped into the two boats, but the stanchions which held them were burning hot, and the tackle by which they hurig was soon burned away, and one by one the men were obliged to leap into the sea. The captain and the second mate remained on the burning vessel until taken off. The rescued ar- ! rived !u re on the Queen of the j Pacific this mnr:tiu. :iD A 'Pr.viltnii M., mnnrti!tv-i' - - -. 1 .
