Having just completed the opening of our useful as well as our ornamental, our plain as well as our
decorated ware, we are now prepared for the trade in all its branches. Buying our goods direct from
the manufacturers, and always paying cash, for them, we not only get them at regular trade prices, as
cheap as San Francisco or Portland dealers can buy, but we also get the cash discount; and if any other
dealer thinks he can undersell us. he has only to start in, and we will agree that "the longest pole shall
knock down the persimmons." We guarantee our patrons that for quality and quantity our prices shall be
TV
: than any other house in town. Our sales of Christmas goods have been large, for which we return thanks
to our customers, but we still have a full and varied stock of as unique and beautiful goods as can be
foimd .in town, and as we have said relative to other goods, we will not be undersold.
The expressions of admiration and satisfaction that have been made by those that have examined or
-bought from us have ' been gratifying and assure us that our efforts to please the Astoria public are ap
preciated. We shall continue as in the past to try and merit the generous patronage bestowed upon us.
Call and see our Dinner Sets, Tea Sets, Toilet Sets, in great variety, Crystal Ware of all kinds,
'Lamps, either hanging, stand, or hall in large stock, and in short, anything you want to buy.
.-:. .. Remember also that we are still in the grocery and provision trade and are ready to supply you with
: anything you want in those lines as cheap as the same quality of goods can be sold by any other dealer.
So remember the place to buy is at ,

Scorned and Contemned.
"Washington, Dec 12. Tho
most melancholy spectacle in I
American politics is that presented '
by senator Riddlebercrer, of Vir-!
ginia. Five years ago Mr. Riddle
berger came to the United States
senate as a readjustee In those
daj's a readjuster was practically a
person whose principal claim to
political distinction consisted in
his opposition to the Democratic
partv. In this capacity Mr. Rid-
dleberger acted and voted
the Republicans. During
five years his conduct has
with
these
been
such as to secure for him the scorn
of the Democrats and the con
tempt of the Republicans. -
During the past summer Sir.
Riddleberger announced on sever
al occasions that for the remainder
of his term he proposed voting with
the Democrats. He was moved to
this course, he said, in order to get
even with such leading Repub
licans as Sherman of Ohio, Ed
munds of Vermont, and Hoar of
Massachusetts, who, he claimed cut
him dead at every possible oppor
tunity. "When Mr. Daniels, the new
Democratic senator from Virginia,
was sworn in Monday last, it was
observed that he was escorted to
the bar of the senate by Mr. Vance
of North Carolina, a proceeding so
unusual that it created considera
ble comment, for it is an unwritten
law ot the senate that on such oc
casions the new member is inva
riably accompanied by the senator
from his own state. Mr. Daniels,
it afterwards appeared, refused to
accept Mr. Riddleberger's escort.
This so offended the Virginia read
juster thatshe threw himself bodi
ly into the Republican camp.
Then Mr. Edmunds prepared a
little trap for Mr. Riddleberger,
into which the Virginian quickly
fell. Mr. Edmunds invited Mr.
Riddleberger, in his blandest tones,
to become a member of the Re
publican caucus committee, whose
duty it was to arrange the commit
tees for the session. An honor so
unusual transported Mr. Riddle
berger to the seventh heaven of
delight. He accepted "with alac
rity. It does not appear that his
connection with the caucus com
mittee secured for him any better
assignment; than he had last year,
THIS ! !
BECK
but it is certainly true that his con
nection with the committee has
bound him so strongly to the Re
publican majority that he must for
the remainder of his term vote and
act with that party.
A Triple Alliance.
Uuappilv lor the wretched ictim of their
assault, dyspepsia, constipation and bil
iousness are faithful allies. When one of
these foes attack tne system, the other two
speedily follow hi its wake, and successive
ly make their onslaught. Successively, but
not successfully. If Hostetter's Stomach Bit
ters be used to repel the onset. The Bitters
as easily extirpates these monsters as St.
George is depicted in the act of doing to the
drason in the steel vignette upon the glass
bottles which contain the medicine. Their
night, like their adtance.is nearly simultan
eous Their mutuality is d ?troyed. they
lK-ecipitately retreat, leaving hc.ilthmaster
or the position and strongly eutrenciied by
the Hitters. This grand rortifler Is also a re
liable bulwark against the insidious assaults
of malarial disease, and itops the approach
of rheumatism, it, moreover, relieves nerv
ous complaints, and imparts vigor to the
weak.

Philadelphia, Dec. 12. Rep

semblies of the Knights of Labor
met yesterday and adopted a reso
lution that all local assemblies
make a demand, when the general
executive board meets, for an
itemized account of air-the expen

last year, so that they may know
where and how $5,000,000 was dis
bursed. If the general executive
board should decline to render
such account they propose to com
pel it do so by law.
