ermen's Protective Union held at Liberty
Hall on December cth. 1687, it was unani
mously resolved that the established prices
of labor, as adopted last season by this Un
ion, be upheld this coming season, to wit :

The jury in the ease of the
United States vs. Alva "W. Butler,
on trial in the U. S. circuit court
at Portland for robbing the U. S.
mail, last Wednesday evening re
turned a verdict of guilty after be
ing out only one hour. The max
imum punishment is five years'
imprisonment in the penitentiary.
He was not found guilty of offer
ing violence to the mail carrier, or
his punishment would have been
much more severe.
A livery man in Walla Walla,
in a general clean up, found a pair
of old pants in the closet and
threw them out. An Indian came
along and tin p:ins were given to
him and he immediately got into
them. Unfortunately they had
been previously inhabited by a
band of yellow 'jackets, which dis
pute'! the right ot possession, ine
Indian lost no time in getting to
the reservation, ami considered not
on the order of Ins going.
