The jury in the ease of the United States vs. Alva "W. Butler, on trial in the U. S. circuit court at Portland for robbing the U. S. mail, last Wednesday evening re turned a verdict of guilty after be ing out only one hour. The max imum punishment is five years' imprisonment in the penitentiary. He was not found guilty of offer ing violence to the mail carrier, or his punishment would have been much more severe.
