As if to test the distance jnd ascertain the chances of death McCJleary tossed his cane to the pavement. After hearing the stick rebound the old man climbed out on the window, prenarinir to drop himself into eternity. "Don't leap," shouted a half dozen people who witnessed the despeiatc man. "1 know what I am doing. Go to hell," came the response from McCleary, who in stantly tossed himself to the mer ciless pavement. He fell head foremost. " Work is progressing rapidly in removing the machinery from the lil-fated steamer Telephone pre paratory to hauling her out of the water, which will be done some time this week. Captain U. B. Scott is talking of lengthening her out twenty-five or thirty feet, which will greatly increase her speed. On examination the boiler was found to be in first-class con dition, the asbestos covering pro tecting it from the heat. The cyl inders will have to be bored out; otherwise they are not hurt to any great extent. The two Hooker pumps are so badly damaged that it will most likely be cheaper to get new ones, which will cost iu the neighborhood of $1,400. The deck will be torn off and the hull renewed wherever burned. Cap tain Scott intends pushing work along as swiftly as possible, as it is impossible to charter a boat, to fill the Telephones place. j$eics.o. Peter Magerus, residing at L'ol Johnson Avenue, Brooklyn, E. D., N. Y., says: During the last eighteen years I have been using over fifty Allcock's PxsTEns a year in my family. I have found them a most perfect ex ternal remedy. They have repeat edly cured me of rheumatism, to which 1 am subject every winter. They have cured me of pains in tho sides and back three times. My wife, children and mother-in-law tell me allcock's Plasters are the best remed yever made, so agreeable, so certain. I know thev have cured my wife of pains in the" back and of a severe cough. My mother-in-law has been cored of a most severe cold, which threatened to turn into pneu monia, by Allcock's Plasters. Peter Magerus.
